Honored to be supporting Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella and PI-CREF, through the Clean Cooking Delivery Unit, to improve access to clean cooking solutions in Sierra Leone. As Dr. Yumkella points out, President Julius Maada Bio has placed clean cooking at the center of Sierra Leone's energy agenda and Mission 300 commitments, and we look forward to continuing to support these efforts.

We just launched the Clean Cooking NDC Tracker and the global picture is striking.

Our new tracker maps how 131 low- and middle-income countries are integrating clean cooking into their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the national climate plans submitted to the UN under the Paris Agreement.

Here's where each region stands:

🌍 Sub-Saharan Africa: 98% of countries include clean cooking or household energy measuresβ€”a reflection of need and also political commitment
🌏 South Asia: 100% inclusion rate, with 75% including explicit clean cooking targets
🌏 East Asia & the Pacific: 73% include clean cooking or household energy measures
🌎 Latin America & the Caribbean: 52%
🌍 Middle East & North Africa: 42%
🌍 Europe & Central Asia: 58%

The data points to the importance of clean cooking as an energy and climate solution.

Introducing the Clean Cooking NDC Tracker 🌍

Over 2 billion people rely on open fires or polluting stoves to cook. Tackling this issue is a health, economic, and climate imperative. Countries' National Determined Contributions (NDCs) are one of the most powerful tools governments have to drive change.

So, where does clean cooking stand in those plans?

Our new NDC Tracker answers that question for 131 low- and middle-income countries:

πŸ“Œ 75% include clean cooking or household energy measures in their NDC

πŸ“Œ 66 countries have explicit clean cooking commitments

This tracker is a resource for advocates, policymakers, and funders who need reliable data to make the case for clean cooking.
