Mac, my son who is in 2nd grade, came block walking with me this past weekend, and one neighbor asked him if he thought systemic racism was real. When we both said, “yes, it is,” she gave us our flyer back and closed the door. As discouraging as this encounter was, it just shows me how much work really needs to be done, and it makes me want to work that much harder. Our kids deserve someone who will fight for them. Our kids deserve someone willing to acknowledge the real disparities in our society and fight for equality within our educational system and beyond.

Bringing along my kids when I walk around different neighborhoods introducing myself to voters has been good for us all. The boys are excited to see mom wanting to make a difference. Their enthusiasm about the campaign keeps me going when doors have literally been shut in my face. I’m not stopping because a voter may not agree with me on an issue. If we can’t work together despite our differences, how can we expect our children to work together? As I have said before, I am doing this for my kids, your kids, OUR kids.

Did you know that you can start voting today? I will be heading the polls soon, but I want to make sure the word is out that you can begin voting. Here are the polling options:

You can vote early at any of these locations from 8am - 5pm through April 23rd, and from 7am - 7pm on April 24, April 26, and April 27. There won’t be any polling locations open on Sunday, April 25th. I hope to see you out at the polls!
