The City of Victoria joins our community in mourning the passing of Gary “Brother Gary” Moses.

At the request of his family, we are sharing the following statement from his niece, Kristin Moses:

*Statement from Kristin Moses, niece of Gary Moses*

"With the heaviest of hearts, my family and I share the passing of my uncle, Gary Moses, whom Victoria knew and loved as Brother Gary. After a courageous nine-month battle with a rare illness, he passed away on Sunday, July 19th, surrounded by the people who loved and cared for him. He was 76.

Our family would like to honor him the way we know he would have wanted: by gathering all the people whose lives he touched, in the city he loved so dearly.

We invite the city of Victoria to an event celebrating his life and service at the future Gary Moses Community Center, the place my uncle called home, on his birthday, July 29, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m.

My uncle understood that even the smallest act of kindness could have a lasting impact. This will be a chance for all the businesses, organizations, and people he helped to give back to him and to one another. Victoria was his whole world, and he loved you all so much.

There is no more fitting tribute than this: a room full of people honoring his legacy, in a building that will soon carry his name, on the day he was born, everyone he loved gathered in one place, in community with each other.

We have chosen a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, our family is asking for donations to causes my uncle cared deeply about, in his memory. Details to come.

We hope to see you all there to celebrate the life, service, and legacy of Gary Moses.

Our hearts go out to you, Victoria. We know how much you loved him, and how deeply he will be missed. Keep his memory alive the way he would want, by telling his stories, with kindness, and by becoming, for one another, what Brother Gary was for us all."
