The 37th Annual Real Men Cook was a success!
Despite the rain, families came together to celebrate fathers, community, and the positive contributions of Black men. That speaks to what Real Men Cook has always been about—love, resilience, and showing up for one another.
Pulling off Real Men Cook isn't easy... pulling it off 37 times is a testament to the vision of our founders, Kofi Moyo and Yvette Moyo, who challenged negative stereotypes by creating a Father's Day tradition that celebrates men in relationship to their families and communities.
To the hundreds of volunteers, cooks, sponsors, partners, and supporters who have made this movement possible over the years—thank you. We especially thank Chef Sean Myers of Blaxican Catering and the many cooks who helped us reach this milestone. There have been hundreds of you over the years, and while we know we can't name everyone without leaving someone out, we want to recognize Andria, our longest-serving volunteer, remember Ivory and Mark, whose contributions are deeply missed, and acknowledge one of our early participants, Barack Obama, who believed in Real Men Cook long before the White House.
A special thank you to the UChicago Medicine Urban Health Initiative for continuing a partnership rooted in healthy families and communities—a vision that aligns with the healthy eating initiatives championed by Michelle Obama.
Thank you to Brandon Johnson for recognizing our contribution to fathers, families, and the City of Chicago, and thank you to ABC, NBC, WGN, WVON, and all of our media partners for helping us share this story.
Finally, thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, cooked, sponsored, donated, and believed in our mission.
Here's to 37 years of changing the narrative—and to the work still ahead.
Thank you for your good wishes.
