This week, our classroom turned into a little art studio of discovery! π¨ As the students explored Islamic geometry, I brought in a handmade Islamic lamp for a bit of inspiration β and instantly, curiosity filled the room. They began asking:
π¬ βHow did you make it?β
π¬ βWhatβs a mosaic?β
π¬ βWhere did this kind of art come from?β
Following the childβs lead, one quest at a time. As I was reading I Am We: A Book of Community by Susan Verde, I realized it was the perfect opportunity to start group projects where students collaborate as one team β building community while exploring their curiosity.
Soβ¦ I followed their wonder! π
We began a series of paper mosaic activities inspired by their questions β connecting art, culture, and history.
Through mosaic making, children are:
𧩠Strengthening fine motor skills
π¨ Exploring patterns, symmetry, and color balance
π Building focus, patience, and creativity
π€ Learning collaboration and shared expression
Every question, every sparkle of curiosity β thatβs where learning begins. π Where every child leads the quest.
