A big shoutout to for recognizing that accessibility goes beyond ramps and wheelchairs.

By offering dementia-friendly entertainment options, including dedicated short films and thoughtfully curated content, Virgin Atlantic is helping create a more inclusive travel experience for individuals living with dementia and cognitive changes. Small accommodations like these can make a significant difference in reducing anxiety, confusion, and sensory overload during air travel.

As an Occupational Therapist, I believe sensory-inclusive design should extend throughout the entire travel journey—from airports to boarding gates and throughout the flight experience itself.

✈️ Sensory-inclusive travel benefits everyone, whether living with a neurological condition or simply navigating the stress of modern travel.

Some OT tips for supporting nervous system regulation during travel:

🧠 Reduce sensory overload with quiet spaces and predictable routines.
🎧 Use noise-canceling headphones or calming audio content.
💧 Stay hydrated and maintain regular nutrition.
🚶 Build movement breaks into longer travel days.
📱 Utilize visual schedules, reminders, and familiar entertainment options.
🌿 Practice simple nervous system regulation strategies such as paced breathing and grounding techniques.

At NeuroMov Rehabilitation, we often talk about nervous system regulation as a foundation for function, participation, and quality of life. Whether someone is recovering from a neurological condition, living with dementia, managing Parkinson's disease, recovering from stroke, or simply seeking a more comfortable travel experience, environments that support regulation help everyone thrive.

Accessibility is not just about physical access.
It's about cognitive access.
It's about sensory access.
It's about human-centered design.

Thank you, Virgin Atlantic, for taking meaningful steps toward making the skies more inclusive for all travelers. 💜
