Around Upstate New York, ramp season means spring is officially here. 🌱
Ramps, also called wild leeks are one of the first edible plants to come up in the hardwood forests each year, and people in the Northeast have been harvesting them for generations.
These wild onions are highly sought after for their strong garlic/onion flavor and short growing season. Some people make pesto or soups with them, but around here a lot of them just end up chopped up and fried in butter. What do you do with yours?!
The patch in this video has been cared for by my family for over 70 years. Like a lot of good ramp patches, it’s been passed down and looked after so it keeps coming back year after year.
