Growing up I didn't have a clue how I wanted to do this, but suspected that it would include working in medicine to some extent. I also knew that I had a gift of navigating emotional situations and resolving conflicts with folks that were even older than I was which was sort of uncomfortable at the beginning. Add that with the fact that I was on the lgbtq spectrum and had no idea how to navigate o

Heavy Is the Head
by J. Warren

Gone are the soft days and strong sighs of yesterday.
All that's left is sunshine, and blue skies are here to stay.
You gave up your baggage and broke through the fears
spoke life into hardship and dried all the tears.

The cool of the winter is now melting what's frozen.
Found yourself in the darkness; realized you were chosen.
Adrenaline running every time you're on stage
competing with wisdom that keeps coming with age.

Insightful messages filling nooks and deep spaces.
Kicked away all the lies now you're off for the races.
Don't always understand cause it's new exploration
but you're down for the ride, and up for the occasion.

Opportunity comes, it's been knocking forever.
But you couldn't hear it. The noise buried your treasure.
Been knocking so softly, had to get rid of the s**t.
Used to think you were nothing, now you know that you're It.

Who would've told you you'd be ending the cycles?
But you ain't no Jesus. You're more like his disciples.
Breaking through chains that were holding you hostage
now you're moving with ease cause you carry the knowledge.

Your light's shining bright but they don't understand.
You were gifted by God, but they just see a man.
Unfettered emotion seeping out at the seams
You could heal the sick. Realize a few dreams.

Just don't regress and slip into despair.
You may look up some days, realize that you're there.
It's okay, speak the word to cover yourself
every word that he's spoken resonates for your health.

Stand tall my dear brother, you've got more work to do.
Don't you ever forget that there's nobody like you.
When you stand on your stage they'll all want to hear.
They're laying in waiting, but the king draws near.
