Hi 🎤 is this thing on? We’re about done with this weather and are non stop thinking about all the work to come at the farm this season. Just wanted to share some considerations and game plan as we are redesigning the garden.

☀️what views are the best views in the area/what do we want our view to be from the pavilion and picnic area
☀️what space do we want to open up to be more inviting
☀️what views do we want to block?
☀️what paths do we want to encourage?
☀️we want people to move throughout the garden so creating paths through border beds instead of cut flower rows.
☀️bring the fire pit closer to the pavilion to be more involved.
☀️what is realistic for us to be able to do— working off of the layout we’ve already created with our cut flower rows but expanding the beds for less grass maintenance.
☀️prioritize beds closest to the pavilion as well as problematic areas that are difficult to maintain first.

In the fall of 2025 we laid 6+ inches of wood chips down on our cut flower beds and paths in hopes to kill the grass underneath by spring. From here, we’ll add shrubs to begin adding structure and year round interest to the garden. These are huge investments that will completely transform our space. We’ve already planted 5 new trees, one spring blooming, 3 evergreen and 1 for shade (…one day 🥲 I swear they were bigger at the nursery). Planted 5 climbing roses in our long bed with the trellises, one day these will be a beautiful backdrop in the distance. We’re excited for all the new things we’ll learn this year with this new direction we’re headed in. Thanks for being here!

May is when the cut flowers begin to bloom and breathe life back into the garden 🌤️ We begin to open the farm to visitors with our Open Garden events like “Use Our Yard Sale” and we begin to see an influx of graduation parties and picnics 🧺🍾 Not to mention the best bonfire weather before the warm summer nights 🪵🌙

April is when the sun starts to warm up & the garden starts to wake up ⛅️ We remove frost cloths, Tulips start to bloom, apple trees are blooming and we finally get our hands back in the dirt 🌱
