⚾ PUBLIC COMMENT REQUESTED: Proposed Renaming of Ben Gill Park Softball Fields

The City of Terrell is inviting residents to provide public comments on a proposal to rename the currently unnamed softball fields at Ben Gill Park as the Rayford Harwell Memorial Softball Complex.

Rayford Lewis Harwell (1943–2015) was a lifelong Terrell resident, often described as a "Terrell icon" by those who knew him. He was recognized for his generosity, dedication to his family, and his lasting impact on the community. The proposed renaming seeks to honor his legacy.

At this time, the City's public notice does not include the specific reasons or contributions that led to the nomination. Community members are encouraged to participate in the public comment process and share their thoughts on the proposal.

🚔📹 TERRELL TO CONSIDER FLOCK SAFETY CAMERA AGREEMENT WITH TxDOT

The Terrell City Council is scheduled to discuss and consider a 2026 Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Multiple Use Agreement that would allow for the installation of Flock Safety cameras along TxDOT highways within the city.

Flock Safety cameras are automated license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras designed to help law enforcement investigate and solve crimes. The cameras capture images of vehicle license plates and identifying characteristics—such as make, model, color, and unique features—but are not intended for issuing speeding tickets or traffic enforcement. Instead, they are commonly used to locate stolen vehicles, identify vehicles associated with criminal investigations, and assist in locating missing persons.

If approved, the agreement with TxDOT would authorize the placement of these cameras within the state highway right-of-way, expanding law enforcement's ability to monitor major travel corridors through Terrell.
