Well folks, today is International Wheelchair Day! Started in 2008, by British disability advocate Steve Wilkinson living with spina bifida, this day highlights how wheelchairs are more than just tools. They are definitely lifelines empowering people to live independently and more on their own terms. We celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of wheelchair users, while also reminding us of the ongoing need for inclusivity in our communities. My wheelchair allows me access to employment, education, church and R&R (as seen here at our local beach). Acknowledging this day promotes a better understanding of the challenges faced by those with mobility impairments and advocates for more accessible environments & policies, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, can get involved, feel seen and contribute to their communities! So, HIWD! 😎👨‍🦽👩‍🦽‍➡️
