This was one of the reasons Greg Hearns went to school to receive a degree in Audio production. Along with his degree he has more than 35 years in the industry. He worked in television, radio, recording studios, system design (audio, lighting, video), and live sound. He worked with a variety of bands over the years, with 27 of those mixing at his church. In Greg’s 17 plus years designing sound systems for churches he consistently noticed that there was a lack of trained audio technicians. In both large and small churches, many of the volunteers had little to no training. When called to consult with a facility Greg often found a sound system that was not only in the need of equipment upgrades but they also needed training. He also observed that they needed more than just equipment training, but also the techs need to know how and what to listen for, as well as the steps in making the sound better. One of gifts the Lord gave Greg is the gift of listening, how to listen to music, and how to mix that music to sound good. He wants to teach others to do the same by training audio operators how to become great live sound engineers.
