Matt is always one of our favorite guys to host… and not just because he makes killer Pinot Noir! He’s knowledgeable and passionate and super down-to-earth. A decade ago, we helped launch Kung Fu Girl Riesling in Missouri, turning it into the biggest wine in our portfolio. Now, its creator, the legendary , is back with a new Riesling. And like any great sequel, Blossom Fury lives up to the hype and takes it to the next level.
This is a single-vineyard, high-elevation Riesling from the Evergreen Vineyard, planted in 1998 by Jerry Milbrandt. Perched on steep cliffs above the Columbia River in the Ancient Lakes AVA, the site’s fractured basalt, gravel, and caliche soils contribute to the fruit’s shimmeringly mineral-driven backbone. Cooled by river breezes and sustainable farming techniques, Evergreen delivers fruit of piercing acidity and crystalline precision.
Charles Smith ferments the Riesling with wild yeast and entirely whole cluster before aging it 10 months on lees in stainless steel. The result: a citrusy bolt of electricity that is perfect on its own and pairs vibrantly with food.
