Not Yet 50

Not yet 50, no warning sign,
Running from doctor to doctor, just chasing time.
A pain in my stomach I couldn’t ignore,
Something felt different than ever before.

Changes, discomfort, a whisper inside,
But answers were missing, nowhere to find.
No one suggested the tests I could take,
No early detection, just chances at stake.

Cologuard®… a start, a simple first try,
A colonoscopy… still passing me by.
Five long months of waiting in fear,
Hoping for answers that never came near.

Then came the moment, heavy and clear,
“You have cancer,” still rings in my ear.
A sound so loud, though softly it came,
A life split apart in the blink of a name.

So now I stand, with a voice and a pen,
A songwriter’s heart that won’t quiet again.
Spreading awareness, with hope, strength, and joy,
So no one’s dismissed, no girl or no boy.

So if there are signs, please don’t delay,
Push to be heard, don’t be turned away.
Because early detection can change every end,
And save someone’s life… a stranger, a friend.
