As we close out the year we’d like to thank Samantha Joinesfor being our president this past year. She lead and grew personally and uplifted the chapter along the way. Thank you Sam!

We ended our 2025-2026 year this week with a presentation from Mölnlycke Health Care US and handing the reigns over to our new president Meranda Scherer !

Thank you to all our members for a great year! We have lots of exciting plans for next year so stayed tune! We will have some events and updates over the summer so keep an eye out!

Members will have strong feelings about topics. Your board wants to listen to its members. During this Congress on the PeriOperative Educator Amendment, the BOD gave members plenty of time to make their voices heard. Lots of nurses bravely stepped up to microphones, identified themselves and gave their input. Member voices are crucial when it comes to topics that will impact perioperative practice. But, sometimes consensus cannot be agreed upon.

That is what happened to the Amendment to the PeriOperative Educator Role Statement. While there was a lot of great input, there wasn't a consensus to end the voting. This content will be looked at further--don't fear! It's not the end of it. Under the new AORN President David Reinhart a committee will take into consideration member input to address wording and phrases and make a new position statement.

All that could not have been done without the voice of the AORN member. We wanted to share this Expo experience to let people know; YOUR VOICE MATTERS! Your vote matters. You as a member matter. Even if you cannot attend Expo in person, you have the ability to make public comments on guidelines and amendments and change perioperative practice!

At Expo this year, attendees got to see how their voices can be heard at the national level. During forums and Congress sessions, amendments to current position statements, role descriptions, and other relevant issues are discussed and/or voted on.

This year, one particular topic was quite the debate on the table. Members were asked to publicly comment on the statement regarding the role of the PeriOperative Nurse Educator and then to vote on amendments regarding this role. Many nurses spoke up about their take on the position statement. What they liked about it. What they didn't like about it. What they thought needed to be changed to better represent this role. It was a very lively discussion between members, the board and the parliamentarian.

There was so much discussion and allowing voices to be heard that it had to be continued at the next session. What do you think happened? Find out tomorrow!
