Hope everyone stays cool this week—it’s our first really hot and humid one of what’s looking to be a very warm summer. 🥵

With this weather, it is a good reminder to check and fill water sources for animals living outdoors twice a day with fresh water, and offer electrolytes separately in its own bucket or block, or added to feed to encourage water consumption and replace electrolytes lost through sweat.

If you are riding your horses and mules, make sure to do it outside of peak heat hours, and do not overexert an out-of-shape equine. Hosing off after exercise helps dissipate heat—allow water to run off rather than sweat-scraping for better cooling (even better if you can use a fan).

For our equine clients especially, please let us know at the first signs of colic so we can help triage over the phone and plan our day accordingly to be able to ensure prompt care for them.
