THE CHAOS ECHOES RELEASES EMOTIONALLY CHARGED NEW SINGLE “THE COST”
— FEATURING MAT AUSTIN (EDGEOVEREDGE) AND ROBERT COMBS (HERE, NOW)
July 29, 2025 – [Springfield, MO] — The Chaos Echoes, a collaborative music project helmed by multi-instrumentalist Jon Dillinger, has unveiled its latest single “The Cost” — a deeply introspective and cinematic track featuring a raw vocal performance and original lyrics by Mat Austin (EdgeOverEdge), alongside haunting guitar work from Robert Combs (Here, Now / formerly The Science Of).
At its core, “The Cost” is a meditation on regret, emotional isolation, and the quiet devastation of unspoken departures. Austin steps outside the high-energy rock territory of EdgeOverEdge to deliver a vulnerable and haunting vocal performance — exploring a side of his voice rarely heard before. His lyrics navigate the internal wreckage left behind when someone walks away without ever saying goodbye.
“You never said you’re leaving / But I could see it in your eyes...”
The track is anchored by Jon Dillinger (formerly of The Science Of), who contributes bass, ambient synth textures, and acoustic guitar, building a sonic world that shifts between dreamlike melancholy and slow-burning intensity. The result is a track that feels less like a song and more like a fragmented memory unraveling in real time.
“This track started off with me creating a meditative bass line, and Robert came in and developed an amazing guitar part. It was something we developed in The Science Of for a later date, but I instantly thought of Mat when I resurrected this track for this project,” says Dillinger. “It felt like a great way to include him since he helped support The Science Of when we started out, and I was absolutely blown away when he sent back his vocal performance. I think people will really enjoy what he brought to this track.”
