DOCARE International, founded in 1961, is a medical outreach organization dedicated to providing much-needed healthcare to people in under-served areas around the world. DOCARE works in areas where care is unavailable due to a lack of total physicians or specialists. DOCARE provides care via two approaches: short-term global health outreach trips and permanent continuity of care clinics.

DOCARE CELEBRATES AMERICA 250 🇺🇸

Today DOCARE honors the service of Dr. Taran Silva.

Dr. Silva has served on active duty with the United States Air Force for seven years, including a deployment to the Middle East in support of Operations SPARTAN SHIELD and ENDURING SENTINEL. He now serves as Associate Program Director for the Travis Air Force Base Family Medicine Residency Program, training the next generation of family physicians.

On his own time, Dr. Silva has volunteered on medical brigades across Latin America, providing care in Peru, Guatemala, Cuba, Mexico, and Honduras. He continues that commitment to global health as Chair of DOCARE International’s Fundraising Committee.

From the Air Force to underserved communities abroad, Dr. Silva has carried the same call to service — in uniform and out of it.

DOCARE CELEBRATES AMERICA 250 🇺🇸

Stewart Gillard was in the 101st Airborne.  He served after Korea and before Vietnam.  While he didn’t see active duty, he memorably was one of the 1,000 person troop President Eisenhower ordered to Little Rock Arkansas to protect the ‘Little Rock Nine’ as they integrated a previously all-white school in 1957.

After service, Stew returned to his hometown, Bay City, Michigan, then later Clare, Michigan, where he worked in manufacturing most his career.  A call to service was deep in his DNA; he served his community as a member of The Lions Club and The Knights of Columbus for decades.
