I don't post raw SPC graphics too often, but let me illustrate why I'm a bit nervous for today's (4/27/26) severe weather event in St. Louis.

This level 4 is right over the top of St. Louis and the ENTIRE Metro area.

This is your reminder to make sure you know your severe weather safety plan and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings today. Since my day job no longer involves weather, I won't be able to track these storms. I will encourage you to follow KMOV for the latest - Steve has a GREAT team there.

"With fear for our democracy," I write this post. (Would've written it yesterday, but work is keeping me plenty busy getting ready for the start of the fall semester in a few days)

Everybody ready for fewer local newsrooms in your TV market now that the rumored Nexstar/TEGNA deal is official?

In Huntsville, this means you'll have WHNT 19 (CBS), WHDF 15 (CW), AND WZDX 54 (Fox) all under ONE ROOF, with WAFF 48 (NBC) and WAAY 31 (ABC) under the only other roof in town should the Gray/Allen Media deal be approved.

In St. Louis, that will merge the existing KTVI 2 (Fox) and KPLR 11 (CW) duopoly with KSDK 5 (NBC). And since Sinclair doesn't do local news on KDNL 30 (ABC), that leaves Gray-owned KMOV 4 (CBS) as the ONLY other commercial TV newsroom in town.

And that's just TWO markets out of MANY that will see consolidation accelerate like fire should this deal be approved.

If you're not already supporting your local public media outlet(s), now is a GREAT time to do so to keep these corporate conglomerates honest in a world of consolidated local news.
