Let us take a culinary journey through one of my families favorite spots to eat, that’s right, we’re talking about Peking House in Springfield, Mo!

✨Cashew Chicken: I mean, what can I say that hasn’t already been said about a glorious plate of Springfield, style cashew chicken? The chicken is crispy, it’s crunchy, it’s tender to the touch. The cashew sauce, or “gravy” as many refer to it, is salty, and savory, and coats each piece of yard bird perfectly!

✨General Chicken: I know there is always a debate about the heat levels of general chicken. Some like it hot, some like it mild, other like it sweet. Peking Houses General is more of a candied version. It’s saucy, sweet, but not overly sweet, sticky goodness! If I want some added heat, I just drizzle on some sriracha on each bite!

We love how friendly the staff are at Peking House, the atmosphere is always laid back and inviting, and just an all around great spot to grab some tasty grub from! Plus, my son is hooked to their lo mein, and we also like adding the steamed veggies as a side with our chicken.

What say you? Do you prefer your general chicken spicy? Do you prefer more sweet? How long have you been visiting Peking House? Do you have a go to a dish? Let me know in the comments!

The time is here folks, Scratch & Co. has officially opened their doors and they are slinging grub and beverages for the masses!

Myself, Petty Eddie Eats, Dakota from The Threads Collab, Luis from Tortuga Torta, Chris from Seafood Express, Mike from Q66, and last, but not least chef Daniel Pliska from OTC all grabbed a table and ate our way through many, MANY dishes!

✨Sausage, mushroom, & hot honey flat bread: Flatbread crust topped with the house marinara, crumbled Italian sausage, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese. Finished with a hot honey drizzle & fresh basil. This was one of my favorite appetizers, it was crispy, savory, sweet, with a hint of heat I can make this an entire meal! Also, they didn’t skimp on the mushrooms, each slice was covered, end to end with earthy, savory mushrooms!

✨Stuffed Meatballs: House made meatballs stuffed with mozzarella and served with house marinara, topped with ricotta & served with garlic bread. I doubled up on meatballs apparently because not only did I order the spaghetti & meatballs as my main meal, these stuffed meatballs as an appetizer was how I started the evening and I would definitely do it again! They were beefy, cheesy, and saucy goodness paired with the garlic bread for a great starter!

✨Fried Mushrooms: Stuffed with goat cheese & herbs and deep fried ,served with their caremelized onion, mushroom & truffle aioli. These were absolutely humongous, at first I thought they were arancini, but boom super crispy, savory mushroom caps stuff with wonderful goat cheese! It was a break from the norm of the smaller, typical fried mushrooms, that we already know and love.

✨ Spaghetti & meatballs: House made meatballs in their house marinara sauce over a bed of bronze cut pasta, topped with fresh basil & grated parmesan. It’s been quite some time since I’ve had a big ol’ bowl of spaghetti and meatballs so I knew this needed to be my main dish. The meatballs are tender and beefy, the marinara is bright and acidic, and I loved the shaved parm on top! That sauce clings well to the pasta, making this a great comfort dish!

✨Lemon Berry Cheesecake: One of my very favorite desserts has always been cheesecake. Also, I love anything lemon, combine the two and you have the blueberry lemon cheesecake from Charmingly Cheesecake and it is a work of art! It’s a velvety, it’s creamy, it has the perfect mix of citrus to the fresh blueberry, I’m gonna need 24 pieces of this immediately! Go check out their website and just look at the mind blowing cheesecake that they are creating!

There was obviously a lot more food ordered as we were a group of seven, but I have focused on the items that I ate on my end of the table. The atmosphere is lovely and beautiful, the staff were friendly, and my dinner was excellent! There are other items on the menu that I wanna go back and try like the bacon wrapped meatloaf.

They also have private dining rooms as well as an event center and rooftop bar that will be opening up soon. It goes without saying they have only been open a couple of days so expect hiccups, as things don’t always go 100% when places first open. Have grace with the staff, and welcome Scratch & Co to the 417!

As I continue to work my way through a long list of spots in the Springfield area that I have yet to visit, I can officially mark off Metropolitan Grill! It’s been on the list forever, and I have finally made it in!

✨Paulina Pasta: Tortellini topped with Spanish chorizo, shrimp, and tossed in a romesco sauce made from roasted red peppers and plum tomatoes. Then, THEN they add a grilled lobster tail and torched burrata to finish it off. The whole bowl is a vibe, it’s spicy from the chorizo, savory from the romesco, and creamy from the burrata. Plus, shrimp and lobster just sets the whole dish off!

✨Marsh Margherita: They are also knocking out some killer wood fired pizzas! I tried the Marsh Margherita that is topped with their San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, and olive oil. They are bring out some hot honey to drizzle on top, for a nice added sweet/heat touch! The crust on this pizza is wonderful, it’s light, airy, with the perfect crunch. The tomato sauce is slightly sweet, bright, and not overly acidic, so dang good!

Y’all already know that I am a lover of all things Retro Metro, so finally getting over to the Mother Ship that started it all, was well over due. Plus, the dish that I tried is named after local Realtor Paulina Najbar who I had the pleasure of getting to meet that evening as well!

What is your go to dish at Metro Grill, since I know I’m the last person to actually visit, so I need y’all to tell me what to try at my next visit!
