Pretty cool when the Sunburst Race goes right through your neighborhood! I wasn't shooting the event per se, however I did manage to get a few shots.
Congratulations to all the participants of this year's race!

Come by Kay Westhues’ studio/gallery today between 11am and 4pm for a holiday open house!

Along with other artists, I’ll be sharing some (very giftable) selections from a couple of series of work—Grandpa’s Toolbox and rarely seen nature photography.

Lots of great gift ideas…so come by and say hi, enjoy some hors d’oeuvres, and do some light shopping.

See you this afternoon!

In deep thought.

An owl recently got caught up in a soccer goal net and was cut free by some nearby neighbors. She spent a few days being monitored prior to being brought back and released. She drew a small crowd from the neighborhood on this chilly 40ºC evening to watch her release. It didn't quite go as I assume everyone expected—she wound up sitting in the field for a good 30+ minutes before she flew off to some nearby trees under the cover of darkness...and a much smaller crowd.

Setting up for a shoot on Mars?? ...nope, just a mountain of trash! ;)

It's Burning Man...it's post apocalyptic...it's a portrait taken on top of a mountain of trash! ;)
Have had some time to dig through the archives lately and found this image taken on set during a shoot on top of a landfill in St. Louis. And while it was taken back in 2011—looks like it could be from today!

One more from my Grandpa’s Toolbox series that is currently on display at The Hammer & Quill in South Bend, Indiana.

Inspired by the memories of exploring my father’s toolboxes and uncle’s garage/shop on the farm, I draw upon experience as a commercial photographer and art director as I individually photograph and digitally composite items from my collection of antique tools, machine parts, and found objects into what I’ve started calling ‘Vintage Radials’…part of my Grandpa’s Toolbox Series.
