Wow, it's back to intense heat and humidity. Even just kneeling in place harvesting this morning we were sweating buckets. We're sure loving some cucumber slices with salt, cold watermelon, and iced mint tea with lunch!
The garden is pumping out veggies right now (and soon we'll also have fruit!) so we'll be at the Liberty, NC Farmers Market (423 W Swannanoa Ave) tomorrow, Saturday July 18, from ca. 8:30 to 11 am.
We'll have loads more ripe Roma tomatoes, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, and pickling cucumbers, as well as kale, collards, mixed salad greens, red and golden beets, red onions, garlic, various herbs (Genovese basil, Thai basil, sage, oregano, spearmint, and lemon balm). The new cut flowers we started from seed this year are thriving and eye-catching so we're extra excited about our bouquets! We'll also have a small number of little lemon summer squash, okra, peppers, native/naturalized plants (wild columbine, wild bergamot bee balm, Carolina jessamine, and oxeye daisy), house plants, and more.
See you tomorrow morning!

We're back to the Liberty Farmers Market (423 W. Swannanoa Ave) tomorrow, Saturday July 11, from ca. 8:30 to 11 am.
The tomatoes and cucumbers are really loving this continued hot weather and the small amount of rain we've gotten so we'll have an abundance of yellow and red cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, and pickling cucumbers this week! We'll also have some okra and shish*to peppers. Plus we'll still bring beautiful greens (kale, collards, and mixed salad) and a variety of herbs (sage, oregano, lemon thyme, lemon balm, lemongrass, sweet basil, and Thai basil). We'll also have flowers (some new varieties!), native/naturalized plants (wild columbine, wild bergamot bee balm, Carolina jessamine, and oxeye daisy), and a few house plants. In addition, we'll bring red onions, garlic, Egyptian walking onions, and eggs.
New this week are a limited number of two additional kinds of heirloom beets (Chioggia and Cylindra) and delicious little heirloom lemon summer squash.
See you tomorrow morning!
Due to the heat and holiday we're taking a little break this weekend. But we'll see you next Saturday morning, July 11, at the Liberty Farmers Market with cherry tomatoes, pickling cukes, and lots of other goodies.
Happy July 4th!

Thank goodness we've finally gotten some rain. Phew. The plants are really growing now, and we're happy to say we'll be back at the Liberty Farmers Market (423 W Swannanoa Ave) tomorrow, Saturday June 27, from ca. 8:30 to 11 am!
New this week are a small quantity of mixed cherry tomatoes and introductions of okra, shish*to peppers, and jalapeno peppers (more of all in coming weeks).
The kale still looks great (not for long with the upcoming sweltering temps though) and we'll have mixed salad greens, beet greens, and many herbs (sweet basil, Thai basil, dill, a little stevia, lemon balm, spearmint, and parsley, sage, rosemary, and [lemon] thyme. ;-) ). In addition, we'll have pickling cucumbers, baby garlic and red onions, and heirloom golden and red beets. We'll also have flowers, house plants, native and naturalized pollinator-friendly plants (Carolina jessamine, two kinds of bee balm, wild columbine, and oxeye daisy), and more!

We're now officially experiencing "exceptional drought" and, honestly, it's tough on all of us at Ancient Spring Farm - chickens, goats, plants, people, and pets. Just know that every purchase you make helps us keep going and feeling like our daily hours of hand-watering plants and extra-attentively caring for animals just to keep them alive is worth it!
We'll be at the Liberty Farmers Market (423 W Swannanoa Ave) tomorrow, Saturday 6/13, from ca. 8:30-11 am with a few new things this week plus many things you've already been enjoying. The kale still looks beautiful and we'll again have mixed salad greens, collards, and turnip greens. In addition, we've got an increasing number of pickling cucumbers coming on. Plus we'll bring eggs, herbs (dill, Thai basil, sweet basil, flat-leaf parsley, spearmint, peppermint, and lemon balm), flowers, some house plants, and native and naturalized pollinator-friendly plants (two kinds of bee balm, mountain mint, lemon balm, wild columbine, Carolina jessamine, and oxeye daisy).
New this week are a small number of golden beets and baby red onions, and we'll have a few other goodies as well including the last jar of our spring honey (don't be shy!). The cherry and Roma tomatoes are really coming on, and now we just have to wait a short while for them to ripen...
See you tomorrow morning!

Gosh this drought is really scary, and really tough when one's irrigation is hand watering. We're sure hoping for unexpected rain soon! In the meantime, we'll be at the Liberty, NC Farmers Market (423 W Swannanoa Ave) tomorrow, Saturday 6/6, from ca. 8:30 to 11 am.
Tomorrow we'll still have mixed salad greens, lovely kale, collard greens, and turnip greens (good raw or sauteed). We'll also have garlic scapes! You can eat them raw (spicy and strong but a bit milder than raw garlic) or you can roast, sautee, or add them to cooked dishes for a nice mellow garlic flavor.
We'll also have different cooking and (cold) tea herbs (sweet basil, Thai basil, lemon thyme, sage, flat-leaf parsley, spearmint, apple mint, chocolate mint, and lemon balm). In addition, we'll bring a variety of native and naturalized pollinator-friendly outside plants (two kinds of bee balm, lemon balm, wild columbine, mountain mint, wild quinine, oxeye daisy, and Carolina jessamine).
The tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers are starting to come on, yay! We'll bring a small number of pickling cucumbers tomorrow, with the quantity increasing with time. Tomorrow we'll also have eggs, flowers, house plants, pennyroyal sachets (good odor neutralizers), a gourd bird house, and the last of our spring honey.
Stay cool and see you tomorrow morning!
