Select Fastpitch Weekend Recap
Another impressive weekend for Select Fastpitch as teams across the organization battled against top competition, brought home championships, and made deep tournament runs from 8U through 18U.
Select McManus 18U put together a strong showing at the PGF Vette City Showcase, earning a Runner-Up finish against a talented field of teams.
Select Black 9U continued their outstanding season by finishing as USSSA State 10C Runner-Up, proving they can compete with anyone in the division.
Select Bryan 14U delivered one of the most exciting moments of the weekend, capturing the USSSA State 14A Championship. Trailing 4-2 in the 7th inning, they completed a dramatic walk-off victory with a 3-run home run to claim the title. The team finished the weekend 5-1 and showed incredible resilience when it mattered most.
Select Reliford 15U represented the organization well at the Top Club National Championships, advancing to the Elite 8 and competing among some of the nation's top programs.
Select Smithers 16U battled through a tough field at Scenic City, posting an impressive 7-2 record and finishing as Tournament Runner-Up.
Select Salazar 8U continued to prove they belong among the best, finishing as Runner-Up at the Battle of the Bats. This group has shown tremendous growth over the past several weeks, consistently competing and finding success against second-year teams.
Congratulations to all of the players, coaches, and families on another outstanding weekend!
In speaking with coaches- the next facet of this is determining if their roster cap will stay at 25 or if current athletes are grandfathered and schools can go above 25 .
The Coach said it best- spreading 25 athletes across 4 years is a lot better than spreading 25 athletes across 5.
Don’t fear yet though! We went through this over Covid and although there was a bottleneck everyone still got through it .
But don’t give up on any opportunities right now as a 27 and 28 until all of this ironed out!
🚨 Important Recruiting Update for Student-Athletes & Parents 🚨
The NCAA Division I Council has approved the proposed “Five-for-Five” eligibility model, which would allow student-athletes to compete in five full seasons over a five-year period. Under this framework, an athlete’s five-year eligibility clock would begin the academic year after high school graduation or upon turning 19 years old, whichever comes first.
If implemented, this change would significantly impact roster management, recruiting, and athlete development by effectively eliminating the traditional redshirt year and allowing athletes the opportunity to participate in all five seasons of eligibility.
For families navigating the recruiting process, it’s more important than ever to understand how these evolving eligibility rules may affect scholarship opportunities, roster spots, and long-term athletic planning.
