Meg Octopus Biologist
I know all job markets are hell right now but we’re loosing an entire generation of scientists y’all. If not multiple generations of scientists. I’m doing my best to stick through the hard times but I wouldn’t blame anyone for leaving the field. Some of us dont even have the choice to stay. It just sucks and so here’s some solidarity posting for everyone going through it, just like I am.

Do you know the dumbo octopus? Genus Grimpoteuthis is quite a celebrity. They are the deepest living cephalopod (squid, cuttlefish, octopus, nautilus)! Found at Hadal depths, 7,000m below the ocean’s surface.
They are also seen hopping along the sea floor, behavior scientists believe is foraging! They’re just out hunting for a little snack and looking absolutely whimsical while doing it. An inspiration for sure.
I watched Remarkably Bright Creatures last night and I have THOUGHTS! So here’s a review from an octopus biologist herself.
Now i could go on more tbh. Like ive never seen a GPO have a ring of circles around their eyes like the animation had in this movie. They refer to his arms as tentacles, but that’s pretty predictable. And of course, the most scientific critique ever, I dont actually think the octopus is smart enough to have the understanding of the english language and the characters as he does. 😅 But I get it, its fiction and makes for a good narrator. We can anthropomorphize a little for fun.
Have yall watched it? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!
