The Last Visit Before Wedding Day
Episode 1
Beauty looked out the airplane window as the plane descended into New York. Her heart beat steadily, but her face remained calm. She knew she had no business visiting her ex-boyfriend Bernard just weeks before her wedding, but guilt had eaten deep into her conscience. Bernard had invested so much in her—paid for her medical school, bought her parents a house, and made her life in the United States possible. But when it was time to settle down, she chose Sven, a younger, more handsome man who matched her lifestyle in Los Angeles. Now, she needed Bernard’s forgiveness.
She had lied to Sven that she was traveling for a medical seminar in Dallas. He had kissed her forehead that morning and dropped her off at the airport without suspecting anything. Beauty booked a direct flight to New York, took a cab and stopped at a bakery to buy Bernard’s favorite pastry—coconut and raisin muffins. As she stood at Bernard’s front door, waiting for him to open, she reminded herself that this visit was only for closure. She had convinced herself that Bernard deserved to know in person, not through social media, that she was getting married.
Bernard opened the door slowly. His face was as cold as ever, but his eyes flickered when he saw her. He stepped aside and allowed her to enter without saying a word. The house smelled of expensive cologne and leather. She sat on the edge of the couch, nervous. Bernard walked past her and poured himself a glass of whisky. “You didn’t come here just to say hi,” he said, still facing away from her. Beauty cleared her throat and said softly, “I came to tell you I’m getting married, Bernard. I wanted to say thank you for everything and to beg you to forgive me.”
Bernard didn’t speak immediately. He just stood by the window, holding his drink. After a long silence, he turned and looked at her with a strange smile. “So, after using me to climb, you remembered I still exist?” Beauty lowered her head and nodded. She didn’t want to argue. She only wanted peace. “I’m not here to mock you or rub it in. I just thought you deserved closure,” she said. Bernard chuckled and walked toward her slowly. “Closure? You want closure?” he asked. Then he took the muffin box from her hand and dropped it on the table. “Come with me.”
She followed him quietly through the hallway, hoping he was leading her to his study where they would talk properly. But when he opened a small door beside the guest bathroom, she hesitated. “Go in,” Bernard said firmly. Beauty was confused. “What’s in there?” she asked. “Just step in,” he said again. She took two steps into the dark room, and before she could ask another question, Bernard pushed her fully inside and shut the door. She screamed and tried to open it, but the handle wouldn’t turn. “Bernard! What are you doing?!” she shouted. But he didn’t reply. She was locked in.
The room was dark and smelled like dust and old paint. Beauty banged on the door for hours, crying and begging Bernard to let her out. She sat on the cold floor and tried to calm herself, thinking maybe Bernard was only trying to teach her a lesson and would release her after some hours. But time passed. She grew hungry. Then she grew thirsty. By the next day, her lips were dry, and her stomach ached. She cried softly, regretting the visit more than anything she had ever done.
Meanwhile, back in Los Angeles, Sven was worried. Beauty wasn’t picking her calls. Her phone had been unreachable for almost 24 hours. He called the hospital in Dallas, but they said there was no seminar and no doctor named Beauty was listed. Sven panicked. He tried calling her parents, but they said they had no idea where she had gone. He started calling friends, sending messages, even went to the police to report her missing. He couldn’t sleep that night. His wedding was in weeks, but the bride had vanished without a trace. He sat in the living room, holding his phone tightly.
Bernard watched the door quietly from time to time. He didn’t open it. He didn’t speak to her. He wanted her to feel everything he felt the day she sent him that message saying she had found someone else. For seven years, he had cared for her like a father, a sponsor, a lover, and a friend. But she repaid him with silence and betrayal. He had cried secretly for months when she blocked him on Instagram and deleted all their pictures. Now that she had returned to mock him with a wedding invitation, he decided to make her pay. She had hurt him too deeply.
Inside the room, Beauty was weak. She lay on the floor, shivering and confused. Her voice had gone hoarse from shouting. She had not eaten or had water in almost two days. She began to imagine horrible things—what if Bernard left the house and never came back? What if she died there? What if Sven moved on and married someone else? The thoughts were worse than the hunger. She regretted not telling anyone about the visit. She had deleted her browser history, cleared her texts, and left no trace. No one knew she was in Bernard’s house. She was trapped, and no one would find her.
Bernard finally opened the door after 48 hours. He stood there with a bottle of water and a piece of bread. Beauty was too weak to speak. She looked up at him with sunken eyes and whispered, “Please let me go.” Bernard dropped the bread and water on the floor without saying a word. Then he shut the door again. He went back to his living room and picked up his phone. He had just received a strange text from someone—Sven. The young man had somehow traced Bernard’s number and sent a message asking if Beauty had visited him recently. Bernard stared at the message in silence.
Sven was not ready to give up. He had contacted one of Beauty’s close friends who mentioned Bernard casually during a conversation. Sven did a search and found Bernard’s LinkedIn profile. From there, he found Bernard’s business website, and from the contact page, he got his number. He was about to take the next step. If Bernard didn’t reply soon, he was going to take the first available flight to New York himself. Beauty had vanished, and deep down, Sven felt something was wrong. He didn’t know Bernard personally, but he had a bad feeling that the man she went to beg for forgiveness might not forgive her so easily.

The Rich Son-in-law
Episode 10
The moment Nicole stormed out of Billion’s compound, Akunna felt her heart leave her body. She ran after her daughter, calling her name over and over. “Nicole! Nicole, please wait! Let us talk!” But Nicole did not look back. Her footsteps were fast, angry, and wounded. She reached the gate, pushed it open, and disappeared into the street. Akunna reached the gate too, breathing hard, tears pouring down her face. She looked left and right, then rushed back inside to grab her car keys. She knew she could not allow her daughter to wander the streets in that state.
Akunna drove out of the compound immediately. She spotted Nicole far ahead, walking fast like someone running away from her own shadow. “Nicole! Please stop!” Akunna shouted through the window. But Nicole did not stop. She walked even faster. Akunna parked the car by the roadside and ran toward her. “Nicole, please get into the car. Let me take you home. Please, my daughter.” Nicole turned briefly and said, “Leave me alone.” Her voice was cold. She stepped back and flagged down a taxi. A yellow cab stopped beside her. She entered quickly, refusing to look at her mother again.
“Nicole! Nicole, please!” Akunna cried as the taxi drove away. She stood there helplessly, watching the car disappear down the road. People passing by stared at her, but she didn’t care. Her heart burned with guilt and fear. She returned to her car slowly, whispering, “God, what have I done? Please help me.” She drove home with shaking hands. When she got home, she rushed to Nicole’s room and knocked. “Nicole, please open. Let us talk. Please, my daughter.” But Nicole remained silent. She locked herself inside and refused to answer, even after hours of knocking and pleading.
Akunna sat on the floor outside Nicole’s door, crying. “I am sorry, my daughter,” she whispered repeatedly. “I did you wrong. I know I hurt you. Please forgive me.” But there was no response. As night fell, she finally gave up and went to her own room, her heart heavy. Meanwhile, inside her room, Nicole lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She felt betrayed, broken, angry—but beneath all that, she felt something else… understanding. She remembered the long years her mother spent alone. She remembered how her mother cried sometimes when she thought no one was listening.
By midnight, Nicole sat up slowly. Her anger had cooled. The pain was still there, but she could think more clearly. She opened her door quietly and walked to her mother’s room. She knocked gently. “Mummy?” she said softly. Akunna jumped up from the bed. She rushed to the door and opened it. Nicole stood there with tired eyes. Akunna burst into tears. “Nicole, please don’t hate me,” she said. Nicole shook her head. “I don’t hate you.” Akunna held her face. “I made a terrible mistake. I should never have done that to you.” Nicole sighed and wiped her mother’s tears.
“Mummy,” Nicole said softly, “I forgive you.” Akunna froze. “You… forgive me?” Nicole nodded. “Yes. I have thought about it. You have been alone since Daddy died. You have carried pain for many years. You needed love. You needed someone to hold you. I understand.” Tears flowed freely down Akunna’s cheeks. Nicole continued, “And you found that love in Billion. I cannot fight you for that. I will not stand in your way.” Akunna held her daughter tightly. “Thank you. Thank you, my daughter. You don’t know what this means to me.” Nicole rested her head on her mother’s shoulder gently.
“Mummy,” Nicole said, “I want you to be happy. I want you to marry Billion. I will support both of you.” Akunna pulled back and stared at her. “You will support us?” Nicole nodded. “Yes. You deserve companionship. You deserve joy. I will not be a barrier.” Akunna hugged her again. “God bless you, my daughter. You have a good heart.” Nicole smiled faintly. “I also love someone else. Emmanuel is the one I truly want. I want to marry him.” Akunna wiped her eyes. “Then follow your heart, Nicole. Follow it fully. Let nothing stop you again.” Their hearts finally felt light.
Months passed, and everything changed beautifully. Nicole went ahead to marry Emmanuel in a small but beautiful wedding. She was glowing with joy. Her friends danced happily, and her mother stood by her side, smiling and thanking God for peace. Nicole later gave birth to a healthy baby, and the whole family rejoiced. Emmanuel was a devoted husband, always caring for her and always present. Nicole finally felt she had found the love she had long desired. She often said, “Everything happened for a reason. I am happy where I am today.” And she truly meant every word.
Akunna also had her own joyful transformation. After months of preparation, she married Billion. The wedding was quiet but elegant. Billion held her hand with pride as they exchanged vows. He said, “You brought happiness back into my life.” And she replied, “You gave me love again.” Nicole attended the wedding with Emmanuel and carried her baby in her arms, smiling genuinely. The bitterness of the past had washed away. Akunna felt alive again, beautiful again, hopeful again. She finally had companionship after years of loneliness. She finally had a man who chose her with his whole heart.
Finally, the day came when Akunna was taken to the hospital to deliver her babies. Billion remained by her side, praying and holding her hand. After hours of labour, the cry of babies filled the room—three beautiful, healthy babies. Triplets. Tears rolled down Akunna’s face as she held them. “Thank you, God,” she whispered. Billion kissed her forehead. Nicole rushed into the room, smiling. “Mummy, they are perfect.” Akunna looked at her family—her daughter, her son-in-law Emmanuel, her husband Billion, and her three newborn babies. For the first time in many years, her heart felt completely full.
THE END.

The Rich Son-in-law
Episode 9
The room became painfully quiet after Billion’s shocking confession. Nicole was still kneeling, staring at him with trembling lips. Akunna stood behind her, frozen like a statue. Billion knew this was only the beginning. There was a heavier truth he had not yet revealed—the identity of the woman he had gotten pregnant. He swallowed hard and looked at Akunna. She avoided his eyes. His heart started beating fast.
"How do I tell her that her mother is the woman carrying my children?" he thought. It was the most difficult moment of his life. The truth could destroy everything forever.
Nicole wiped her tears angrily. “So you got another woman pregnant,” she said. “Fine. That is your business. But I deserve to know who she is.” Her voice shook. Billion glanced at Akunna again. She looked pale, as if the world had stopped moving.
Nicole repeated, “Who is the woman, Billion? Tell me now.” Billion felt sweat on his forehead.
“Nicole…” he began slowly, “it is complicated.”
Nicole shot up from her knees and stood. “Complicated? After everything today? Tell me the truth.” Billion sighed deeply. He knew he could not postpone this any longer. The truth had reached its deadline.
Akunna wanted to speak, but her voice failed her. She felt her legs trembling. She knew this moment was coming, yet it still felt unreal.
"How did I even get here?" she asked herself. "How did I allow myself to fall for my daughter’s fiancé?"
She placed her palm on her stomach, feeling the weight of the unborn twins. Everything inside her felt heavy—guilt, fear, shame. She knew Billion was about to say everything. She also knew Nicole would never look at her the same way again. The air in the room felt tight and painful.
Nicole folded her arms impatiently. “I am waiting,” she said. “Who exactly is she? I want her name. Stop hiding.” Billion closed his eyes briefly, then opened them.
“Nicole,” he said, “before I tell you, I need you to calm down.” Nicole laughed bitterly.
“Calm down? After shame and heartbreak in one day?” Billion stepped forward.
“The truth is not simple.” Nicole took a step back. “Just say it. I am ready.” Akunna’s breath became shallow. Billion looked at her—eyes full of regret. She looked away quickly. Nicole watched the exchange and frowned, suspiciously.
“Talk!” Nicole shouted. “Say her name!” Billion inhaled deeply.
“Nicole… the woman I got pregnant is someone close. Very close.” Nicole frowned.
“Close? Who? My friend? Someone in your office?”
Billion shook his head. “No.” Nicole’s chest tightened. “Then who?” Billion looked at Akunna again. Her hands were shaking. Her lips were trembling. Nicole followed his eyes and slowly turned toward her mother. Her voice dropped to a whisper. “Why… why are you looking at my mother like that?”
Billion finally said, “Nicole… I fell in love with your mother.” Nicole’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
Nicole staggered backward as if someone had slapped her. “My… mother?” she whispered. “My mother?” Akunna covered her face and cried. Nicole shouted, “Answer me! Is this a joke? Billion, tell me this is not true!”
Billion nodded sadly. “It is true.” Nicole’s voice cracked.
“You slept with my mother?”
Billion replied quietly, “Yes. I fell for her. I didn’t plan it. It just happened.” Nicole held her head. “Oh God… oh God…” She turned to her mother. “Mummy, tell me he is lying. Please tell me he is lying.” But Akunna only cried harder, unable to speak.
Billion continued, because he knew Nicole deserved the whole truth. “Nicole… your mother and I have been together for some time now. I realized I wasn’t in love with you. I couldn’t marry you while lying to myself.”
Nicole screamed, “You couldn’t marry me, but you could sleep with my mother? How dare you?”
Billion said, “I am sorry.”
Nicole shouted again, “Sorry? Is that all you have?” Billion swallowed and said, “There is more.” Nicole glared at him.
“More? What else could be worse than this?” Her voice echoed through the room, sharp and painful.
Billion said quietly, “Your mother and I did IVF… and she is carrying babies for me.” Nicole froze completely. Her mind went blank. The world around her seemed to tilt. “Twins?” she whispered. Billion nodded. “Yes.” Nicole turned slowly to her mother.
“Mummy, is this true?” Akunna cried and nodded. “Nicole… forgive me,” she whispered. “I made a mistake.”
Nicole stepped back, shaking violently. “A mistake? A mistake? You slept with the man I planned to marry. You got pregnant for him. You hid everything from me.” Her voice broke into pieces.
Nicole felt her whole body becoming weak. She leaned on the wall to support herself. “So both of you betrayed me,” she said quietly, her voice fading. Billion tried to step forward, but she raised her hand. “Don’t come near me. Do not touch me.”
Akunna cried, “Nicole, please listen—” Nicole screamed, “Do not call my name! Both of you destroyed my heart today. Both of you!” She wiped her tears angrily. “I cannot stay here. I cannot breathe here.” She grabbed her bag from the chair, her hands shaking badly. Her chest was rising and falling rapidly.
Without waiting for another word, Nicole stormed out of the living room. She marched to the door, threw it open, and stepped outside with heavy footsteps. Billion called her name, but she didn’t stop. Akunna tried to run after her, but she froze halfway, too ashamed to move. Nicole pushed the gate open and walked out of the compound in pure anger—anger at her mother, anger at Billion, anger at herself for ever loving him. She didn’t look back once. The pain was too deep. The betrayal was too sharp.

The Rich Son-in-law
Episode 8
Nicole followed her mother into Billion’s compound with her heart beating fast. She held her mother’s hand tightly as they walked to the door. Billion was in the living room, sitting quietly on the sofa with a book in his hand. The television was on, but he wasn’t watching it. When he heard footsteps, he looked up. His eyes met Nicole’s immediately. Nicole froze for a moment. She felt her legs shaking. Akunna gave her a little push and whispered, “Go in. You came here to talk.” Nicole took a deep breath and walked further inside, her heart trembling.
The moment she reached the center of the living room, Nicole slowly went down on her knees. Billion dropped the book on the table and stared at her. She burst into tears immediately. “Please forgive me,” she said. Billion’s face remained calm, but he didn’t speak. Nicole wiped her tears and continued. “I came to tell you the truth. The pregnancy I announced… it does not belong to you.” Akunna stood quietly behind her daughter, watching everything unfold. Nicole’s tears flowed freely. Billion leaned back on the chair and sighed. He already knew the truth, but he wanted her to say it.
Nicole bowed her head. “I have someone else,” she said. “I’ve been in love with another man for a long time. He is younger than you. I tried to end it, but I couldn’t. My heart returned to him.” Billion raised one eyebrow but still didn’t speak. Nicole continued. “I was scared of telling you because everyone already knew we were getting married. I didn’t want to disappoint you, but I finally realized I can’t marry someone I don’t truly love.” Her voice cracked as she spoke. “I’m sorry. I hurt you. I know I did. Please forgive me.”
Billion slowly stood up and walked around the living room. He kept his hands behind him, pacing quietly. Nicole remained on her knees, trembling. “So you’re in love with someone else?” he finally asked. “Yes,” Nicole said. “And the pregnancy?” “It belongs to him,” she answered. He looked at her for a long moment, his face expressionless. Then he sighed deeply as if releasing a hidden burden. “You should have told me earlier,” he said. Nicole nodded quickly and sobbed. “I know. I’m sorry. I was afraid.” Akunna stepped closer and placed a gentle hand on her daughter’s shoulder.
Nicole wiped her face with her palms. “I know our marriage plans can’t continue,” she said softly. “I just want to be honest now.” Billion sat back down and stared at her. “So the wedding is over?” he asked. “Yes,” Nicole replied. “It can’t work. I’m in love with someone else.” She lifted her eyes slowly, waiting for his reaction. Billion kept a serious face, but inside him, relief washed over him like cold water. Akunna watched him closely. She knew he was pretending to be angry, but she also knew he wasn’t surprised by Nicole’s confession.
Billion finally leaned forward. “Do you know the meaning of what you did?” he asked. Nicole swallowed hard. “Yes. I hurt you. I misled you. I kept secrets.” Billion nodded slowly. “You should have ended things earlier. You should have saved us the confusion.” Nicole nodded again. “I know. I was weak.” She placed her hand on her chest. “But I don’t want to lie anymore. I want to follow my heart. I want to be honest with myself.” Billion looked at her closely. Her tears, her shaky voice, everything showed she truly had someone else she wanted.
Akunna stepped forward and said softly, “Billion, she is deeply sorry. She knows she has caused trouble. But she came here to tell you the truth because I asked her to.” Billion nodded. “I understand.” Nicole lifted her head again. “Please forgive me,” she said. “I didn’t mean to embarrass you. I didn’t mean to deceive you.” Billion remained quiet. He let the silence fill the air. Nicole’s breathing became heavier. “Say something,” she whispered. “Even if you want to shout at me, please say something.” But Billion kept his mouth shut. He wanted her to feel the weight.
Finally, Billion stood up again and walked to the window. He placed his hand on the curtain and sighed long and deep. “Nicole,” he said without turning around, “you think you are the only one with a confession?” Nicole looked up immediately. Akunna also raised her head sharply. Billion turned slowly to face them. His face remained serious. “You came here to tell me your truth,” he said, “but you don’t know that I also have my own truth.” Nicole blinked fast. “What do you mean?” she asked softly. Billion walked back and sat down again, staring at both of them.
Billion crossed his legs. He kept his eyes on Nicole. “You were afraid to tell me that you love someone else,” he said. Nicole nodded. “Yes.” Billion continued, “You hid your pregnancy from me because you didn’t want me to feel bad.” Nicole lowered her gaze again. “Yes.” He folded his arms. “But you’re not alone. I also have something I should have said a long time ago.” Nicole stared at him in confusion. “What is it?” Nicole asked. Billion looked at both of them, his eyes calm but firm, as if preparing to drop a huge revelation.
He leaned back and said the words slowly, clearly, with a steady voice. “I got another woman pregnant. I also didn’t love you enough to marry you. I found another woman who I love and the woman is pregnant for me.” His voice echoed softly in the living room. Akunna’s heart jumped inside her chest. Nicole’s eyes widened in shock. The room became completely silent. Billion didn’t flinch. He didn’t blink. He just sat there, watching their reactions. Nicole remained on her knees, speechless. Akunna stood frozen beside her. The truth had finally come out—on both sides.

Episode 7
Nicole rushed into the house immediately she returned from Billion’s place. She did not greet anyone. She did not remove her shoes. She just entered her room and locked the door. The moment she entered, she fell on her bed and burst into tears again. She cried until her voice became faint. She cried until her pillows were soaked. That night, she refused to eat. She refused to talk. She refused to come out. Her mother knocked several times, but Nicole did not open. She stayed inside, sobbing quietly, wishing the whole world would disappear.
The following morning, Nicole woke up with swollen eyes. She had cried almost the whole night. When she sat up, the pain in her chest returned again. She remembered how Billion rejected the pregnancy. She remembered his exact words. It felt like a knife stabbing her heart. She held her stomach and cried again. Downstairs, Akunna was calling her name. “Nicole! Nicole!” she shouted. But there was no answer. Akunna climbed the stairs slowly, afraid something was wrong. When she reached the room door, she heard quiet sobbing. She knocked gently and said, “Nicole, open the door. Please.”
Nicole did not open immediately. She stood behind the door, wiping her tears. After a long silence, she finally turned the key and opened it slowly. Akunna gasped the moment she saw her daughter. Nicole’s face was swollen. Her hair was rough. She looked weak and broken. Akunna rushed inside and held her. “Nicole, what happened? Why are you crying like this?” she asked. Nicole broke down again and rested her head on her mother’s shoulder. “Mummy, everything has scattered,” she said. “He does not believe me.” Akunna helped her sit down, held her hands, and said, “Tell me everything.”
Nicole took a deep breath. “Mummy… the pregnancy is not for Billion,” she whispered. Akunna’s heart skipped. She stared at Nicole quietly, pretending to be shocked. “What do you mean it is not for him?” she asked. Nicole sniffed and said, “I have another boyfriend… his name is Emmanuel.” Akunna blinked. “Another boyfriend?” Nicole nodded slowly. “I love Emmanuel. He is the one I truly love. I did not know how to end things with Billion. Everything became complicated. Then I got pregnant. I do not know how to tell Billion the truth. I am scared.”
Akunna breathed out slowly and held her cheeks. She said, “Nicole, I understand. You made a mistake, but you need to face it.” Nicole looked at her mother with trembling eyes. “Mummy, how do I tell him? He already thinks I cheated. He thinks the pregnancy is another person’s.” Akunna squeezed her hand and said, “My daughter, go and tell him the truth. Tell him everything. He will not kill you. It is better you confess than continue hiding. Tell him you are sorry. Tell him you were confused.” Nicole shook her head, still crying.
Nicole wiped her tears with the back of her hand. “Mummy, do you think he will forgive me?” she asked in a small voice. Akunna sighed and said, “I cannot promise you that. But at least he will know the truth. It is better than living in fear and confusion.” Nicole nodded slowly. “I think I should go,” she whispered. Akunna stood up and said, “I will drive you there. You cannot go alone in this condition.” Nicole looked at her mother for a moment, then nodded. “Thank you, Mummy,” she said quietly. “I really need you now.”
Akunna helped Nicole wash her face and comb her hair. Nicole changed into a simple gown and sat quietly on the edge of the bed. Her hands were shaking. Akunna held her shoulders and said, “You will be fine. Just breathe.” Nicole nodded. They walked downstairs together. Nicole kept staring at the floor as they moved. When they reached the door, Akunna picked up her car keys. “Let’s go,” she said. Nicole followed her silently. As they stepped outside, Nicole whispered, “I am afraid.” Akunna replied, “Fear does not solve anything. Truth does.”
Inside the car, Nicole placed her palms on her stomach and leaned her head on the window. The road was quiet. The morning sun was bright but not hot. Akunna kept glancing at her daughter, pretending to be worried. “Nicole, when we get there, just speak from your heart,” she said. Nicole nodded and replied, “I will try. I don’t want to lie anymore.”
“Good. Lies will only destroy you.” Her mother said.
Nicole breathed deeply and asked, “What if he hates me?”
“Let him decide. Do your own part. Tell him the truth.”
As they got closer to Billion’s house, Nicole’s heart beat faster. She held her chest and said, “Mummy, my hands are shaking.”
Akunna touched her shoulder gently. “It’s normal. But you have to be strong. You cannot run away from this forever.” Nicole nodded again, even though her lips were trembling. They reached the gate. Nicole exhaled slowly and closed her eyes. Akunna stopped the car and turned off the engine. “Are you ready?” she asked softly. Nicole opened her eyes and whispered, “Yes. I will tell him everything today.”
Before they stepped out of the car, Akunna leaned back in her seat and looked at Nicole. But inside her heart, she was saying something entirely different. She was relieved. She was calm. She was secretly happy that Nicole’s pregnancy belonged to another man. She rested her hand on her stomach, thinking of the triplets growing inside her. She whispered in her heart, “I am glad her pregnancy belongs to another person.”

Episode 6
Billion was at home that evening, sitting on the sofa and watching the news. He had been thinking about the problem between Akunna and Nicole. Suddenly, he heard a knock on the door. He stood up slowly and opened it. Nicole was standing there. Her face looked tense, and she was breathing fast. “Nicole, what is it? Why do you look like this?” he asked. She forced herself to smile and said, “Can I come in? I want to talk to you.” Billion stepped aside.
“Come in. Sit down first. Tell me what is happening.”
Nicole sat down gently and kept twisting her fingers. Billion watched her quietly. He knew exactly what she was about to say. “Nicole, is there a problem?” he asked.
Nicole looked up quickly and said, “I am pregnant.” Her face brightened immediately. She stood up and started pacing around the room.
“Billion, can you believe it? We are going to have a baby. I wanted to tell you earlier, but I wanted to be sure first.” She smiled and said, “This is great news. This will bring us closer. Our wedding will now be perfect.”
Billion remained quiet. He did not smile. He only looked at her carefully. Nicole noticed his silence.
“Billion, why are you not saying anything? Are you not happy?”
Billion sighed and asked, “Nicole, who is the father of the baby?” Nicole stopped moving. She turned slowly.
“What do you mean?” she asked. Billion repeated, “Who is the father of the pregnancy?” Nicole blinked. “You, of course,” she said. “Who else?”
Billion shook his head. “That is not possible,” he said. Nicole frowned. “What do you mean it is not possible?”
Billion stood up and walked closer to her. “Nicole, listen to me,” he said. “The last time I slept with you was three months ago.” Nicole’s eyes widened. “So?” she asked.
“You cannot be pregnant for me. I have not touched you in three months.” Nicole swallowed hard. “Billion, what are you trying to say?”
“I am saying the pregnancy is not mine.” Nicole stepped back slowly as if she could not believe her ears. “Are you calling me a liar?” she asked. “Are you saying I went outside?”
Billion looked at her calmly. “I am not calling you anything,” he said. “I am only telling you the truth. I know when last I touched you.” Nicole felt her heart beating fast.
“But I am pregnant,” she said. “And we are engaged. Why would you doubt me?”
“Because the timing does not match. I am telling you the truth. That baby is not mine.” Nicole shook her head quickly.
“Billion, this is not fair. How can you say this?”
Billion said, “Nicole, think about it well. You know the truth inside you.”
Nicole held her stomach and sat down slowly. Tears filled her eyes.
“Billion, is this how you want to treat me? After everything?” Billion walked to the window and said, “Nicole, we need to be honest with each other. I do not want lies around me.”
“So you believe I cheated on you?” Billion turned around.
“I did not say that. I only said the pregnancy is not mine.”
“It is yours, Billion! It is yours!” She said.
“It is not.” He said.
Nicole covered her face with both hands and cried softly.
After crying for some seconds, Nicole stood up. “So you do not trust me?” she asked. Billion sighed deeply.
“Trust comes from truth,” he said. “And the truth is that I have not been close to you in months.” Nicole wiped her tears angrily.
“I cannot believe this. I came here to share good news with you, and you turned it into pain.”
“Nicole, I am sorry if it hurts you, but I will not claim a pregnancy that is not mine.”
Nicole looked at him with pure disappointment. “You have broken my heart today.”
Nicole grabbed her handbag and moved toward the door. Billion tried to stop her. “Nicole, calm down. Let us talk about this properly,” he said. Nicole shook her head. “There is nothing to talk about. You have already decided. You have already judged me.”

Nicole turned around and started walking away. Billion watched her leave but did not go after her again. Nicole’s face was full of anger, pain, and confusion. As she walked to the gate, she whispered to herself, “Why did I even come here? Why did I think he would accept it?” She knew the truth deep inside her heart. She knew the baby did not belong to Billion. But hearing him say it out loud still broke her spirit. She stepped out of the compound, hissed softly, wiped her tears, and walked away in anger.
