Today, we honor and celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day! ❤️
Let’s shift the focus from celebrating Columbus to uplifting Indigenous communities and their enduring contributions. It’s time to acknowledge the harm caused by colonization and instead honor the resilience, cultures, and histories of Indigenous peoples.
“Understanding the importance of visibility through an Indigenous lens sets the tone for understanding cultural values and representations as an Indigenous community. Since time immemorial, Indigenous communities have had a kinship with ʻĀina (land) and have lived in harmony with the ʻĀina. The value and contributions from our kupuna and all who have paved the way for the next generation knew the challenges we would face as evolution shifted in the eyes of greed. Today, cultural restoration through the revival of indigenous languages, actively bringing cultural practices to live in spaces like ʻĀina, and spirituality should continue to be uplifted and celebrated.”
