Why Our Most Talented Athletes Are Being Left Behind — and What We’re Doing About It

Two 14-year-olds. Global-level talent. No room in the system. Time to act.

Last week, two of the most promising 2010-born athletes in Mexico, Rafa García and Víctor Ruiz, were rejected from national team consideration — not based on talent, but because they don’t come from the right leagues.

These boys weren’t told they needed to improve. They weren’t told they lacked potential. Instead, they were told the doors are closed to them unless they play in certain high-cost, pay-to-play systems that only serve select youth clubs and elite institutions.

The official reply? "Only finalists from the Liga Nacional Juvenil amateur league are scouted at the national level."

Let’s decode that.

That means if you're not part of a privileged club pipeline — often privately funded or sponsored through expensive academies or elite private schools — you are not eligible for national visibility, no matter how good you are. Period.
That’s not just a broken system. That’s a violation of:

* FIFA RSTP Article 19.1 — "International transfers of players are only permitted if the player is over the age of 18, unless the move ensures access to adequate football education and/or training." This implies equal development opportunities must be provided domestically.

* FIFA Development Programs Policy — "FIFA is committed to ensuring access to football regardless of economic background. Youth players should be identified and developed based on talent and potential, not financial capacity."

* Olympic Charter Rule 4 — "The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind..."

* Olympic Charter Fundamental Principles of Olympism, Paragraph 6 — "Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement."

* FMF Public Statements — which claim to support "national inclusion and development at all levels."

Donlad Trump and the misguided Legislation: Sheinbaum’s Government Prioritizes Globalist Agendas Over Mexican Citizens

The Mexican government has announced that, starting January 1, 2025, consumers will face an additional cost of up to 150 pesos for purchases made through foreign e-commerce platforms. This decision, driven by a decree from the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP), extends the Impuesto al Valor Agregado (IVA) to goods valued below $50 USD, which were previously exempt. While the administration touts this as a revenue-generating move, critics view it as yet another example of misguided legislation favoring globalist policies rather than addressing the needs of ordinary Mexicans.

Senator Waldo Fernández of the Partido Verde Ecologista de México (PVEM) estimates that this measure could bring in approximately 15 billion pesos in additional tax revenue for 2025. However, this fiscal optimism contrasts sharply with the realities faced by low-income consumers, who often depend on affordable online goods. By raising costs on essential products, this policy risks further eroding the purchasing power of Mexico's most vulnerable citizens, intensifying the economic burdens they already bear.

Critics argue that President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration is more aligned with global economic trends than the immediate welfare of the Mexican people. The new e-commerce tax exemplifies this disconnect, as it mirrors similar policies in the U.S., where a larger market and higher purchasing power shield consumers from severe impacts. In Mexico, however, such measures disproportionately burden those already struggling, leading to accusations that the government is prioritizing international appearances over domestic welfare.

Sheinbaum’s recent interactions with U.S. President Donald Trump highlight further concerns about her leadership. Trump’s threats of tariffs on Mexico over issues like child immigration prompted inconsistent responses from Sheinbaum, leaving critics to question her ability to navigate Mexico’s complex economic and diplomatic landscape. Her oscillating stance—initially opposing Trump’s demands but later suggesting vague notio
