Just in! New study showing the many incredible health benefits of daily olive oil!
✔️ In a study published this week by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, investigators found that people who consumed olive oil each day had a lower risk of death from many causes.
✔️ The study included over 60 thousand women and 31 thousand men in the historic Nurses’ Health Study at Harvard and followed their diet over 28 years
✔️ People in the study who consumed the most olive oil— at least half a tablespoon or 7 grams daily—saw the biggest health benefits: 19% lower risk of cardiovascular disease deaths (including stroke), 17% lower risk of cancer deaths, 29% lower risk of neurodegenerative deaths (dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease), and 18% lower risk of respiratory deaths.
✔️ Replacing 10 grams of butter, mayonnaise, margarine, and dairy fat with olive oil each day was associated with a 13% reduction in death during the study.
✔️ This is an observational study and there are still many aspects of the impact of olive oil on health that we still need to understand, including the specific compound responsible for the health benefits and the ideal amount to take daily. Other studies have suggested that even higher amounts of daily olive oil—4 tablespoons a day— is beneficial.
✔️ Overall, the study does support what other studies have found in Europe and in the US that individuals who consume a Mediterranean diet and olive oil see major health benefits
➡️ The main take-away?: Find a way to get more olive oil in your diet each day. Whether it’s in your salad dressing, on your food or bread, with cooking… or perhaps in a Living Elixir. And get rid of that butter and margarine.
