Kiwi's rescue story: In the summer of 2022, we rescued sweet Dusky, who quickly became a beloved part of OPR rescue family. Because of his many medical needs, he was lovingly welcomed as a forever foster by Nga and her incredibly patient family, where he spent a few years surrounded by love until his passing in winter 2025. 🕊️🤍 A few weeks ago, I checked in to see if Nga’s family was ready to foster again, they said yes—with one request: hopefully a healthier case this time, and preferably female, since our dear Dusky had quite the reputation for marking every corner of their adorable backyard 😄 Not long after, a group of volunteers from San Jose Animal Care & Services shared Kiwi with me. Kiwi is potty trained, crate trained, low energy, easy on leash, loves snuggles, and is happiest simply being close to her people (with a toy or stuffed animal always nearby!). Kiwi had been declining in the shelter—losing weight, not eating well, and there were concerns about a possible fungal infection. Thankfully, volunteer Maddie stepped in and brought her home for a few days. In just 4 days, Kiwi gained 4 pounds, proving what we already know: sometimes love, rest, and proper care can work wonders. ✨ Her fungal culture came back negative, and because she responded well to antibiotics, we’re continuing treatment while running additional tests to make sure everything looks good. So far, Kiwi is doing great and showing no obvious health concerns. Now Kiwi is settling beautifully into foster life with Nga and family, soaking up all the love, attention, and neighborhood walks with her dog walker crew. 🐾 Stay tuned as we continue learning more about our sweet girl, Kiwi! 💕 #oneplanet #onegoal #onerescueatatime #oneplanetrescue #fosteringsavealives 05/12/2026
