INGREDIENTS
• 1 cup red lentils (masoor / moong dal)
• 2 tbsp - Ghee / oil
• 1 tsp turmeric,
• 1/2-1 tsp red chili powder (optional)
• 1 onion, diced
• 3 cloves garlic
• 1 tsp cumin seeds
• 1 tsp mustard seeds
• 1/2 tsp asafoetida / hing
• 1 sprig curry leaves
• 1-2 dry red chilies (optional)
• Finely chopped cilantro / coriander leaves for garnish
• Lemon juice to finish

METHOD
• Boil lentils with turmeric in 3 cups water until soft, 15 mins.
• Separately, sizzle hing, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, dry red chilies in oil/ghee.
• Add onion and garlic, red chili powder, cook until golden.
• Pour this tadka over the lentils.
• Finish with cilantro and lemon.
