Project Manager Position
Position Description:
• Plan, organize, monitor, coordinate and administer the work on construction projects on State
and County Fairgrounds from the planning/budget phase through the completion of
construction.
• Review project planning guides prior to the budget phase from an architectural, program, scope
and cost standpoint.
• Direct the preparation of cost estimates, surveys, environmental impact reports, preliminary
plans, working drawings and other documents.
• Review drawings and specifications for conformance to the authorized scope
• Represent State and County Fairs in the selection of consultants, fee negotiations, and
administration of contracts for architectural and engineering services.
• Identify and take appropriate corrective action for any issues that affect environmental
documents.
• Are responsible for establishing the project schedule, gaining approval, and monitoring
schedule performance; and schedule post-contract items prior to the expiration of the
guarantee/ warranty periods.
• Make policy recommendations to management on sensitive project issues; assist in obtaining
approval of changes in the scope of a project; work with State and County Fairs to resolve
budgetary issues associated with changes in the scope of a project; assist in establishing project
priorities
This is the full journey level:
With limited supervision, the Project Manager is responsible for providing oversight and management of
the full range of State and County Fairground projects from the planning, design, and contract award
phases through construction and completion phases. Projects are assigned to Project Managers by their
magnitude or complexity and require coordination across an entire project team. While the PM does not
serve in a supervisory position, the Project Manager provides the lead role and directs the work of one
or more CCA support staff or consulting firms. The PM is responsible for ensuring that the final product
reflects the original scope and budget requirements.
Types of projects assigned to Project Managers vary greatly and could include new multi-use buildings,
water systems, water treatment and sewage systems, historically-sensitive building remodels, large scale renovations, and/or removal of toxic substances.
This position requires about 10-15% travel to project sites and may require travel outside normal
business hours with some overnight travel within the State by car or plane depending on assigned
projects and complexity.
Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Candidates should demonstrate exceptional professional experience providing a solid understanding of
two or more of the following areas:
• Materials, methods, and processes required in the construction of wood, steel frame, masonry
and concrete buildings;
• Materials, methods, and processes required in the construction of civil grading, paving,
concrete, underground, landscaping; plumbing, heating and ventilating, and electrical work
• Work of the various building trades;
• Various codes and safety orders applicable to building construction;
• Construction contracting practices, including estimating, division of work, scheduling and
organizing construction work; and principles of effective supervision.
Ability to:
• Read and understand construction plans and specifications;
• Develop and prepare bid documents and detailed scopes of work;
• Calculate material quantities;
• Direct the work of others;
• Prepare clear and comprehensive reports and correspondence;
• Read and prepare construction schedules using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera.
Required Experience
Five or more years' experience as a contractor, superintendent, or project manager in full-time direction
of craft supervisors involved with several major crafts engaged in construction or alteration of major
buildings, such as schools, hospitals, or other large buildings; pre-bid planning methods, and estimating
time and material cost; ordering equipment and materials. At least two years shall have been in charge
of multiple projects in multiple locations for a contractor or a large construction firm.
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from college with major work in architecture, engineering, construction
management, or documented training. Work experience will be considered in lieu of education.
We are looking for Engineering Project Managers
The Engineering Project Manager leads the facilitation of successful design, fabrication, and installation of architectural and structural building systems. While leading an integrated team within a specific business unit, they apply engineering, project management, problem-solving, and communication skills across all levels and disciplines to significantly contribute to project success. The Project Manager leads multiple teams and projects simultaneously.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leads and is accountable for the delivery of multiple projects through a team of engineering professionals.
Establish a project schedule to ensure accuracy and timeliness of
calculations and project deliverables and align with external
stakeholders.
Monitor project financials, including but not limited to job cost planning, alignment of billing, costs, and change orders.
Routinely review contracts in relation to the full scope of projects.
Participate in the selection of appropriate project vendors.
Routinely monitor and assess analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine overall project’s progress to plan, and counsel leadership in the skill team and business unites to initiate any recovery actions, as needed.
Maintain collaborative cross-functional relationships with manufacturing leadership and finance teams as well as other stakeholders throughout the business unit.
Support a culture of creativity and accountability in the business unit – solve problems in new ways while keeping organizational commitments; establish an appropriate cadence for employee reviews to maintain progress and resolve issues while maintaining an agile and adaptive working style that promotes initiative, accountability, and quick iteration learning and revision.
Challenge and voice relevant concerns in a constructive manner; coach and teach others on the team to engage constructively in meetings and encourage vibrant discourse.
