Makeable Crafts
06/07/2026
A friend tried to talk me off this project on FaceTime. She kept on suggesting other things. Still I kept going.
I texted her the finished photo and her exact response was "Is that THE BOX?! No way!!!"
And that, my crafting friends, is the magic of cardboard box crafts.
This was just a plain shipping box. It took about 90 minutes to make, and it became a gorgeous jute rope storage basket lined in sweet gingham fabric and cost me under $4 to make. (Mostly Dollar Tree rope, bless that store!)
Here's the secret that takes this from "cute DIY" to "boutique-worthy": Poly-fil batting in between the cardboard and fabric liner. That one step just smooths everything out and makes the liner look plush, full and professional. Do not miss it.
Now I am officially on a mission to make one of these for each room in my house. My craft room shelf already loves this one.
Save this post to remind yourself to try it. And leave a comment below: what would you store in yours? Craft supplies? Kitchen stuff? Bathroom towels? I love to hear how you would use it!
