FEMA research has discovered that between 2002 and 2004 an average of over 15,000 fires requiring fire department response start each year due to clothes dryer fires! Of these, most are caused by built up lint in the dryers ventilation system. The picture is of a recent clean out I did which FILLED my shop vac. This kind of lint build-up is not only a fire hazard, but also drastically reduces the efficiency of your dryer, causing it to run for a much longer time in order to dry your clothes. DIY Tip of the Day: Skip Taping, Use Blinds. Slats from an old Venetian blind work great for shielding trim from paint. Cut the strings to free the slats, then tape the string holes in the slats so paint can’t leak through. To use, press the slat firmly along the junction of the wall and trim. Bring several slats to the job and use fresh ones as needed.
