Yesterday I was asked make a post the most impactful takeaway from my first day of the CNA course I am taking and the one word that stuck with me was intentionality. To live every day with intentionality.

Sometimes I find that putting limitations on the creative process can lead to more creative work. For this shoot, I stuck to only using my 35mm lens and no artificial light. With these constraints the images had rich shadows that sparked the idea for how I wanted to color tone this whole set during the shoot. I love the way these turned out and the tones in them. All in all, I had a blast during this shoot even if it was a rain day.

I had an awesome time shooting this maternity set with James and Paige! I really enjoy shooting sets like these because it’s an opportunity to capture a special moment in time while also empowering those involved. In my experience, good portrait photography allows those involved to feel amazing about themselves and when you’re also able to capture a precious moment in time, that’s just the cherry on top 🍒

1) What drew you to Crocheting?
I started crocheting about 6 years ago. As a new college graduate, I wasn’t used to having free time. I struggled to rest after work without feeling guilty and anxious, so I picked up crochet to do something with my hands. I haven’t stopped since. Crocheting is still my favorite thing to do – I look forward to it every day!
2) Who or what has had the biggest influence on the way you approach your work?
I am endlessly inspired by ! Not only is she an incredible designer but she is an amazing human! She uses her platform for good and stays connected with the crochet community, encouraging other makers and offering support. Check her out! ❤️
3) What has been the most rewarding thing your work has given you?
Crochet helps me take care of myself. I live with mental health challenges, and crocheting is one of my main coping tools. When I don’t have energy or desire to do anything else, I crochet. It brings me peace and joy when little else can. It helps me manage my need to feel productive when my body can’t rest. It is a huge gift – I encourage anyone reading this to consider crafting for self-care!
4) What lasting effect do you hope to leave behind on the world with your creativity?
I write crochet patterns that I share with the world. Thousands of folks in 60+ countries are wearing designs I made – it is incredible! I feel deeply humbled and honored to play a little role in so many lives. Since I know the joy and peace crochet brings me, it’s a blessing to be part of that for others.
5) What drives your creativity?
I love the challenge of creating new things from nothing. Sometimes I stumble across a new crochet stitch or a see a cool shirt sleeve on TV or the love the ruffles on a top from an Instagram ad, and I immediately have to get started on a new design. I have a rough idea of what I want to make in my head, but it’s so cool to see a project come to life before your eyes! It’s magical to turn a ball of yarn into a beautiful piece of clothing.
