Compacted crushed gravel makes a permeable base for patios, walkways, and steps. Resist using binders and other additives that repel water rather than allowing water to pass through. Opt instead for using sturdy edging to keep things stable.
This recharges local groundwater stores rather than directing water to gutters that ultimately drain to the bay.
Groundwater is vital during drought years. The more rainwater we divert in to stormdrains ("Drains To The Bay"), the less groundwater is getting stored in underground aquifers.
