November is often seen as a month of connection. A season filled with warmth, gratitude, and togetherness. But behind the cheerful gatherings and holiday buzz, many people quietly struggle with feeling left out or alone. This November, take a moment to reach out. Send a text to an old friend, invite a classmate to lunch, or check in on a neighbor who lives alone. You never know how much a simple act of kindness can mean, sometimes, even a few words can remind someone that they matter.

Here’s something to think about... loneliness isn’t just an emotional experience. It’s a serious health concern. According to the CDC, social isolation and loneliness can increase the risk of depression, anxiety, heart disease, dementia, and even premature death. So when you make the effort to connect, you’re not only spreading kindness, you’re helping protect someone’s well being. This November, let’s make connection more than a tradition, let’s make it a habit.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a real condition. In fact, according to the American Psychiatric Association, approximately 5% of adults in the United States develop SAD, and it lasts for about 40% of the calendar year. As daylight gets shorter, some individuals experience depression-like symptoms. If your mood dips during the fall and winter months, trust that you are not alone and there IS help. Things such as light therapy, routine, and connection can make a huge difference.

October 10th is World Mental Health Day! It's a reminder that mental health is not a privilege, it is a human right. Around the world, millions struggle in silence, held back by stigma and denied access to care.

According to Sapien Lab’s Mental State of World Report from 2023, the average score of mental health globally is 65. The best overall mental well-being score comes from the Dominican Republic with a mental health quotient of 91. The United States sits at a score of 72.

This day is more than awareness. It’s a call to action! We must demand systems that protect mental health, break the silence, and ensure every person has the chance to heal, to grow, and to thrive. Because mental health is not optional. It is essential.

Understanding the warning signs, such as withdrawal, hopelessness, and sudden mood changes, can empower you to intervene. It is okay to ask someone else if they’re thinking about su***de. Loved ones must know that asking someone directly if they are thinking about su***de does not increase their risk. In fact, it can help reduce thoughts of su***de, according to SAMHSA. It could feel awkward, but asking can be the bridge to getting someone the help that they need.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins today! A time to honor the strength, resilience, and rich traditions of Latino communities. But as we celebrate, we must also confront a reality that too often remains unspoken: mental health struggles are rising, yet too many go without support.

For Latino and Hispanic Americans, su***de is the third leading cause of death among youth ages 10 to 24 and men 25 to 34. Yet, according to SAMHSA, only 36% of Latinos seek mental health care. Behind these numbers are stories of silence, stigma, and barriers that keep our communities from the help they deserve.
At We Rise International, we believe heritage is not just about honoring the past, it’s about building a healthier future. This month, let’s break the stigma, uplift one another, and remind our loved ones that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988. Together, let’s make this Hispanic Heritage Month not only a celebration of culture, but also a movement for healing, hope, and change.
