I run into this a good bit . hoping it helps somone .

if you get a message on your dash that says "key id incorrect" or "key not detected" you are not stranded. you can hold the key up to the push to start button and it should still start for you. these messages usually mean the battery in your smart key is dead.if that does not work some vehicles require you to put the smart key in a slot . they are located in various places . sometimes in cup holders / underneath trim pieces / in the glove box .

also your smart key always has a door key for when your battery does die so you can still lock and unlock your door to get into your vehicle. its always inside of your smart key unless it isnt . sometimes cars that went through auction had no keys at all and locksmiths at the auctions arent always required to make the emergency door key.
