The coffee hasn’t kicked in yet. The sun is just starting to come up. It’s early, it’s quiet, and if I’m being honest, it would be a whole lot easier to roll over and stay in bed.
But then there’s a dog ready to work and friends already headed to the field.
Sometimes it’s about getting up before the rest of the world, loading your dog into the car, and showing up.
It’s the quiet drive as the morning light breaks across the horizon. The familiar faces in your training circle. The people who understand why you’d spend a summer morning with a dog instead of sleeping in. Your dog doesn’t care about your to do list, how busy life feels, or whether you’re feeling motivated that morning. They only know that you came.
And more often than not, those mornings you almost talked yourself out of become the ones you remember most. Not because of a perfect track or a breakthrough session, but because of the memories made with good dogs and good people. Training isn’t always what the lesson is about. The lesson is simply showing up.

Anyone with multiple working dogs knows your vehicle becomes part of the journey from training days, trial weekends, road trips, crates, equipment, and everything in between. Excited to have a setup that gives us the space to keep chasing bigger goals.

No one really talks about how hard it is to rehab a working dog. Not just the breed itself — but the dog you’ve poured time, training, goals, and pieces of yourself into. The uncertainty of what the future looks like can sit heavy some days. You replay every movement, every setback, every little change, wondering what comes next.

But through all of it, I’m incredibly grateful for the knowledge and support that canine PT and me has given us. This process has become such an unexpected learning journey — understanding movement, strength, recovery, compensation, patience, and how to truly listen to your dog in a deeper way.

And somehow, rehab makes the small wins feel even bigger. A stronger movement pattern. A comfortable session. A moment of confidence. Things you may have overlooked before suddenly mean everything.

Finding the right care team matters more than people realize. The people who support your dog, educate you, celebrate the tiny victories with you, and help you navigate the hard days are invaluable.

This journey has changed the way I look at working dogs, longevity, and partnership forever. ❤️

After spending 2 hours defending my ethics and choices and ultimately giving up and deciding to just block the person, it sure is nice to get this message from a family that has one of pandas. The reality is that I don’t need anyone’s approval for any choice I make. I have my own reasons and will gladly tell anyone who asks nicely but to come here thinking you will magically have the power to change my view is unrealistic. I feel pretty good about what I do, and I sleep well at night.
