CoDesign Collaborative

For participants on CoDeCo’s recent Field Trip to the Matter Design studio at the MIT Met Warehouse in Cambridge, time stood still. From ancient stone to speculative futures, our visit explored gravity, time, and circularity through the work of Brandon Clifford Brandon Clifford, Jo Lobdell Jo Lobdell , and MIT’s Architecture Program MIT Architecture.

Rield the Field Report, live at codesigncollaborative.org/THELATEST for a glimpse into the past and the future of design. This Field Trip is part of a series of design-inspired experiences curated for CoDesign Collaborative by Misstropolis ✨championing ideas in contemporary art, a contemporary art platform covering art, culture, and ideas. Special thanks to our hosts, Brandon Clifford and Jo Lobdell, and Robin Hauck from Misstropolis for organizing this engaging design time out for the CoDeCo community.

Yesterday, CoDeCo visited MIT for an inspiring studio visit with Matter Design inside the newly renovated MET Warehouse building. Big thanks to Brandon Clifford Brandon Clifford and Jo Lobdell Jo Lobdell for opening their space and sharing their work, and to Misstropolis Misstropolis ✨championing ideas in contemporary art for curating this special experience for the CoDeCo community!

Matter Design is rethinking the built environment by looking to enduring historical practices. From prototyping how a single person can move multi-ton objects to recasting cement and designing for reassembly, their work challenges modern construction assumptions.

What becomes possible when we stop assuming humanity is at the peak of its knowledge—and instead embrace how much we stand to gain by reconnecting design and construction?
