With heavy hearts, we mourn the sudden passing of our friend and community leader, Cayle Tern.
In November, at our Guardians of the Pacific Gala, AREAA Portland had the honor of recognizing Cayle as one of our community leaders for his unwavering dedication to service, advocacy, and uplifting others.
A Lu-Mien refugee from Laos who arrived in Portland as a child, Cayle devoted his life to protecting and uplifting immigrant and refugee communities. He served as APANO’s Civic Engagement Manager, President of the Iu-Mien Association of Oregon, Board Chair of APICCO, and a passionate advocate for Southeast Asian youth and families.
Cayle led with heart, kindness, and purpose. He had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel welcomed and valued. We were also honored to be working with him to help connect our financial wellness program with the Lo-Mien community.
We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to his wife, children, family, friends, and the entire APANO and Southeast Asian community.
Thank you, Cayle, for the goodness and love you brought into this world. Your legacy will continue through the countless lives you touched.

Welcome Madeline to AREAA. Drawn in by the warmth of the community, she’s found more than just professional growth. She’s found a place to belong.

Outside of work, you’ll find her cooking, gardening, or soaking up the outdoors. A sushi lover and beach enthusiast, she finds her reset in the sound of crashing waves. 🌊

Madeline is stepping into the year ahead with intention, growth, and excitement and we’re lucky to have her as part of the AREAA family.
