“Enzo’s World”, Oil on Raymar Belgian Linen Panel, 16 x 20 in. This is a companion piece to the painting of my daughter of the same scale entitled “Ripples of Joy” that I completed last year. This project took me longer than usual, starting in mid-November, due to a protracted hiatus, as I worked on improving my health. The title of this painting harkens back to the Andrew Wyeth painting, “Christina’s World”, in 1948, which represents a starker view of solitude. Enzo, who is still silent, well at least not speaking yet, at 5 years of age is joyful and playful but has not spoken yet. I am waiting for God’s divine providence for that to happen, hopefully soon. This painting captures that enigmatic joy and silence on a playground with the reference photo taken in February 2025, so he has grown quite a bit since that image was captured. The technique employed incorporates elements of realism (not super realism) in the rendering of the main portrait and abstractions of the immediate foreground and background that reflect an Impressionistic style, which I love, creating a sort of Bokeh effect, if you will. I love the combination of relative realism and abstraction that makes the painting more interesting to me. I also love the color palette that renders a soft glow and warmth that reflects the emotions portrayed, especially the unbridled joy transmitted.
