Today we honor Nia — Purpose.

The call to build and develop our communities in ways that reflect our highest values.

Nia asks us why we create, why we organize, and why we show up — not just for ourselves, but for those who came before us and those still to come. Our art, our work, and our service all carry meaning when rooted in purpose.

Nia lives in nurturing Black creativity, amplifying unheard voices, and shaping futures where our people can thrive.

Let your purpose guide your path.

Happy Kwanzaa from BTAN.

Only 10 days left to apply!

Are you a practicing artist who teaches as well? Do you know some folks who love their craft AND engaging their community?

BTAN is accepting applications for Creative Residency until 12/15!

Keep reading and check out the graphics for details!

At the heart of BTAN’s creative education and youth development work is a brilliant and dynamic group of intergenerational, multi-disciplinary practicing and teaching artists who make up the Creatives in Residence Program.

Each year a new group of Creatives is selected and completes Praxis training, BTAN’s professional learning series. Resident Artists engage in coaching and professional development to provide guided support and creative instruction to youth across a variety of artistic disciplines and class subjects, practicing in both the school and community setting.

Beginning with a school-based residency in partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, CIRs support classroom teachers to deliver culturally engaged creative instruction that supports learning objectives. Next, building on their engagement and facilitation skills, Creatives in Residence continue to nurture their own craft and practice before diving into our summer series where they mentor the youth artists of Creative Black Futures.

This residency juxtaposes applied learning with creative practice. With the support of the Network, Creatives in Residence build their individual artistic profile and creative practice in tandem with the youth they nurture and uplift, becoming better teachers, learners, and practitioners of their craft. Strong applicants for this role will demonstrate a commitment to or history of community engagement, artistic practice, and adeptness in educational settings. Act 33/34 Clearance required. Applications close midnight December 15.
