Alone Drifter

A little insight to Lone Drifter, and the driftwood lineage.

It is always difficult to put in writing the connections that one horse has to another- we find it fascinating and appreciate the folks who share this interest. Today we will talk about Lone Drifter’s influence on our program and others.

Lone Drifter and Sun Frost has been an exceptional cross in our program. Lone Drifter, as a son of Driftwood Ike, combines in our program for the doubling down of Driftwood Ike through Sun Frost and Orphan Drift. Below are a few of the Lone Drifter out of Sun Frost daughters.

-PC Poco Warwood- Pro barrel and calf roping money earner-
-PC Lonewood Ike aka “Frisco”- over $500K in heading earnings and a top PRCA header with Colter Todd
- PC Lonova Drift- T4 Broodmare-dam of multiple 1D barrel money earners and outstanding youth horses
-PC Sundrifter- 1D barrel money earner that started his career with Sherry Cervi.
-PC Driftin Lace- T4 Broodmare-Dam of PC Judge Cashnlace- a year end WPRA Futurity Champion, 1D Barrels
-PC Redwood Ike- T4 Sire of multiple 1D barrel money earners, PRCA head horses including PC Ice Ike Baby aka “Brown Sugar” (limited frozen semen available)
-Alone Drifter- Potter Ranch Sire of multiple 1D Money earners
-MP Lonely Senorita- dam of LR Dollywood (sired by PC Frosty Rare Bar), 1D barrel money earner, top pole horse, Mock NFR Champion, NHSRA Finals barrels and poles competitor.

Also Sun Frost but not out of a direct daughter is
- PC Lonewood Special- a multiple 1D barrels producer. PC Lonewood Special is by Lone Drifter and out of a PC Cowan Survivor daughter, PC Cowan Special. As a Sun Frost-Cowan Kitten production, PC Cowan Survivor (sire of 3) was an outstanding full brother to PC Sun Wood and PC Gunner Wood that we lost as a three year old. It was a devastating loss as he was an exceptional saddle horse at a young age proving himself during a rough winter of calving in the river breaks. PC Cowan Special’s dam was PC Peppy Kate who was out of maternal half sister to Sun Frost, Cross Fire Kate. PC Peppy Kate was also the dam of Sun Frost sons PC Mr Sun Peppy, PC Cline Frost, PC Citisun Cline and PC Frost Em Peppy. PC Mr Sun Peppy sold on our 1997 production sale and has been popping up on the maternal side of notable horses such as Wonder If Im Lucky- 2025 Futurity standout, 2026 Denver Champion.

Outside of direct daughters to Sun Frost, we also bred Lone Drifter to PC Katy Dox (a daughter of Boon Dox John and Cross Fire Kate) to get PC Katewood.

-PC Doublewood (Sired by PC Sun Wood) $100k plus heading earnings
-PC Lonewood Kate (Sired by PC Sun Wood) -Colorado Pro Rodeo Asscociation Header of the Year, PRCA Header
-PC Katy Sunwood- (Sired by PC Sun Wood) T4 Broodmare
-PC Ikonic (sired by Lone Drifter)- up and coming sire
-PC Lone Sunwood (sired by Sun Frost) performance horse sire
-PC Lonin Cash by Judge Cash AAAT aka “Ridge” - T4 Sire. We are getting exceptional reviews on his foals as they are well balanced, intelligent and athletic- the foundation that we strive for- and he is definitely stamping them as his! He shares ¾ genetics to PC Judge Cashnlace (Judge Cash AAAT out of a Lone Drifter-Sun Frost daughter)- a year end 1D WPRA Futurity Champion, 1D Barrels.

PC Katewood’s grandam, Cross Fire Kate, was a maternal ½ sibling to Sun Frost putting Prissy Cline on the tail female line of PC Lonin Cash’s foals which is a particular feature of his pedigree that excites us.

We are expecting a great crop of foals out of PC Lonin Cash and have a few older ones!! We love the way Ridge rides and he has benefited from time spent on the heading side of the arena. Now, when not pasture breeding, he is our go to horse to saddle up and get ranch work done and kind enough for less experienced riders to be able to enjoy some time in the saddle.

Outside of our program, Lone Drifter has had notable get in the rodeo world. Lone Drifter is the sire to PRCA Header Dash Ona Drifter, who in turn sired PRCA Head horse DMO Sand Drifter.

Young stallion Down Ta Drift has been making a splash in the barrel horse world winning over $150K from futurity to WPRA Money earnings. Down Ta Drift is by Dash Ta Fame and out of Lone Drifter daughter MP Wooden Cowgirl. MP Wooded Cowgirl carries more Driftwood Ike through Driftwood Ike son, Orphan Drift. MP Wooden Cowgirl is also double bred Katy Mas bred. Top notch rodeo sire and Driftwood Ike son White Lighning Ike along with his son Blue Light Ike carry Katy Mas bloodlines through Katy Was A Lady while Lone Drifter’s dam is Katy Mas daughter Moore Yen.

We look forward to keeping the Lone Drifter factor alive in our program and believe they will be the kind that their owners will find hard to part with!

We welcomed a beautiful newborn filly! She is out of MP Jet Royal Money (Bernice) and by Alone Drifter and I couldn’t be more excited about this one. I’ve been trying to make this cross happen since MP Burnin It Up (Bernie) got injured, so this filly feels extra special.

In the breeding business, a healthy foal is always the goal,but the fact that she’s a filly is truly the cherry on top.

I also want to take a moment to recognize the people behind the scenes who get our mares bred and safely foaled out. They don’t get nearly enough credit for the sacrifices they make for us horse owners. You really can’t thank them enough.
