Here is an example of how the homeowner saved the insurance company almost $4k. The homeowner went and got the cheapest roofer to do the replacement. Then tried to collect the depreciation amount. The adjuster requested a copy of the contract or invoice the home owner gave it to the adjuster as they should, and the adjuster was like Thank you for saving us money. We do not owe you any more money because you got it done for $4000 less then we were willing to pay. This is what your customer want to do to save money on their deductible. Well this insured got an awakening that they still deducted the deductible after the homeowner shopped and spent countless hours with over 10 roofers and meetings. All so they could save the Insurance Company money. Yep, instead of paying the deductible to the contractor that was doing it right and charging the deductible. The homeowner spent all that time and energy only for them to still owe there deductible to the cheapest roofer they could find.
