Hey everyone! Here at Lockett Custom Homes, we’re kicking off Throwback Thursdays! A look back at the history that helped shape Arcadia and the greater Phoenix area.

As custom home builders, we believe in honoring the stories and progress that built the communities we’re proud to be part of today.

This week’s throwback takes us to the early days of Sky Harbor Airport, just south of Arcadia. Opened in 1928, it began as a small desert airfield and soon became a gateway that connected Phoenix to the world, fueling the growth of nearby neighborhoods like Arcadia.

FUN FACT: When Sky Harbor first opened, Amelia Earhart herself was among the early aviators to pass through Phoenix on cross-country flights, helping put the little desert airfield on the map!
