Randy Brecker returns to Unscripted Jazz at South, renowned jazz trumpeter and composer who has influenced jazz, R&B, and rock for over sixty years. His trumpet and flugelhorn performances have graced albums by artists like James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, and Frank Sinatra.
Born in 1945 in Philadelphia, Randy’s musical journey began early. After studying at Indiana University, he moved to New York, collaborating with groups like Clark Terry’s Big Bad Band and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra.
In 1967, he joined Blood, Sweat & Tears and later the Horace Silver Quintet. His debut solo album, “Score,” released in 1968, featured the young tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker. Randy also worked with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and co-founded the fusion group “Dreams,” cementing his legacy in modern music.
