Always the most fiddley bit, the ring requires a lot of specialised work. Cutting, steaming, bending, gluing, clamping, sanding, routing, and drilling... but it's *so* worth it. I did the math for 55 poles, and it worked out perfectly. A loverly just-slighty-over-fourty-eight-inches-to-accomodate-the-special-crown roof ring. Regardé:

A long story made short, my beautifully brutal Singer canvas machine toasted her motor after 70 years. Scrambling to find a replacement motor has proven difficult. A friend let me borrow his Juki, and I'm in love.
I still wanna get my faithful girl up on her feet again, but I have a new aspiration to contend with.
