I fell in love with Belly Dance when I first saw a Tribal Fusion dancer on Belly Dance Superstars. As soon as could I searched out a local studio that offered Tribal Belly Dance classes and started taking as
many as I could. I had found a new passion. Techniques, Styles and Influences
Throughout my career as a dancer, I’ve made it a point to broaden my technical influence. Studying Modern Dance, Flamenco, Hip-Hop, and Pantomime. My journey through dance as a professional began by having the honor to study with and learn form some of todays greatest dancers, teachers and musicians from all over the world. Some of these include; Rachel Brice, Mardi Love, Zoe Jakes, Violet Scrap, Moria Chappell, Suhaila Salimpour, percussionist Hossam Ramzy and many others. I also began dancing with a relatively new troupe called Tara Gaia. Workshops, parties, fundraisers, traditional restaurants and other opportunities became my outlet to perform and bring my love of dance to the public. Through my own personal studies, the excellent work of my teachers and numerous performances I’ve been involved in, I realized that the best way to tell “my story” to others, to express myself, was through dance. Individuality
Aside from incorporating global dance styles, some of which aren’t regularly seen inside the traditional belly-dancing circle, I pride myself on my appearance and visual impact at each event. Though flea market finds, local vintage stores and vendors, unique shops and garage sales, I source and hand make most of my costumes. Authentic vintage and custom one-of-a-kind pieces are my main focus, however, I try to incorporate new modern influences when I can, to bridge the barrier between old and new, …style to style. Attitude separates me from a lot of other dancers. I’m a true performer at heart and it shows during each and every performance. Reserved and traditional or theatrical in your face and awe-inspiring; …either is attainable. Future
Preforming to those that enjoy and respect the art of belly dance, in all its forms. Finding new and different influences to further craft my unique fusion of dance. My desire… is to let the world see what makes me Khatleena.
