The past fifteen months have been a terrific adventure. I've made new friends, met thousands of people and heard about the issues they care about, and gotten to travel around the 147th District every day standing up for the things I believe in. And of course, during that time we had our amazing son, who gives us unmitigated joy after a rough night.

I am thankful for the support of my family, especially my wife Chelsea, who has kept me sane and stood by as my rock while I spent too many nights away from home. I'm humbled by the support of the community, by the people who have never gotten involved in a campaign that came out to address envelopes, write post cards, knock on doors, and make phone calls.

Although things didn't go the way we hoped last night, I am incredibly proud and honored to have received more votes in this election than any Democrat in the seat's history. I'm excited to have worked with an amazing team to break records for fundraising, door knocking, phone calling, and overall voter contacts in the district.

This wasn't a race about me. It was a race about a change in the way we do things in Harrisburg. The voters in our district aren't ready for that change yet, but they will be.

We need someone in Harrisburg who will do more than just talk about standing up for women. When I get to Harrisburg I will propose laws to end sexual harassment in the workplace; work to end the gender pay-gap; and fight for mandatory paid family leave.

LETTER: HB 2154 puts Pennsylvanians’ health at risk 10/29/2018

Jill Erb explains in the Souderton Independent why clean water is important, and why my opponent has a horrible record on protecting our environment.

"Water quality is a very important issue in our area where individual wells supply much of our drinking water. Western Montgomery County is a critical part of the Schuylkill River watershed and includes Green Lane Reservoir and the Perkiomen, Skippack, and Swamp creeks — all in direct assault by Rep. Toepel’s vote on HB 2154. This is reason enough for me not to support her re-election."
