So you like Hip Hop? Allow me to introduce to you the "the mother of hip-hop." Sylvia Robinson was an American singer, record producer, and record label executive who was born on March 6, 1936 in New York City. She achieved success as a performer on two R&B chart toppers: as half of Mickey & Sylvia with the 1957 single “Love Is Strange”, and her solo record “Pillow Talk” in 1973.
She also founded and was CEO of the Sugar Hill Record Company in the 1970s, which produced some of the earliest hip-hop hits such as “Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang and “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. She died on September 29, 2011 in Secaucus, New Jersey

NEWLANDS HEALTH HALL OF FAME
Jane Bolin was a trailblazing African-American attorney and judge who made history in many ways. She was a champion of social justice who used her position as a judge to fight for the rights and welfare of children and families. She introduced many reforms to the Family Court system, such as ending racial segregation in child placement agencies, appointing probation officers of diverse backgrounds, and improving services for juvenile delinquents She also served on various boards and committees that promoted education, health care, and civil rights for marginalized communities.

Newlands Health is proud to recognized Alice Coachman as the first Black woman from any country to win an Olympic gold medal. Growing up in the segregated South. A woman of great courage and determination, who overcame discrimination and unequal access to inspire generations of other black athletes to reach for their athletic goals. Alice Coachman was born on November 9, 1923 in Albany, Georgia.
